Eyüpsultan removals

Moving in Eyüpsultan calls for a different plan at every address: narrow one-way streets along the historic Haliç waterfront, hillside flats in Alibeyköy, gated developments in Göktürk and village neighbourhoods in the north all sit within one district. For a move between the two sides of İstanbul, there is also the question of which bridge the lorry can use.

Eyüpsultan stretches from the Haliç to the Black Sea coast on İstanbul's European side. The District Governorate describes an area of 242 km² and an uneven urban area with gradients of up to 30–40%; main roads run through valleys while homes climb the hillsides (source: Geographic Information about the District, accessed 30.09.2026). Published neighbourhood counts vary between 26 and 29. Our map shows 29 neighbourhoods according to the İBB/OSM layer, counting 5. Levent separately to the north of Alibeyköy. The historic centre and Rami lie to the south, the Alibeyköy–Yeşilpınar hills in the middle, and the Göktürk–Kemerburgaz developments and seven former village neighbourhoods in the north. An ilçe is a district; a mahalle is a neighbourhood.

From Sancaktepe to Feshane is 35 km, to the district centre 48 km and to İhsaniye 56 km; the total road-distance range for a car is approximately 35–56 km, with an estimated 30–50 minutes in free-flowing traffic (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). These routes use either the 15 Temmuz Şehitler or Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. Lorries cannot use those bridges and must take the longer route via Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. We confirm the route and departure time during the site visit, based on the address.

Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry

For a move between İstanbul's two sides, the vehicle class determines the bridge. According to the General Directorate of Highways (KGM), the 15 Temmuz Şehitler Bridge is open only to first-class vehicles and passenger minibuses; lorries cannot use the FSM Bridge. Lorries use Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. The Eurasia Tunnel's toll table has no lorry class (sources: KGM restrictions, Eurasia Tunnel tolls, accessed 30.09.2026). The Northern Marmara Motorway is close to Göktürk–Kemerburgaz; residents also describe using it to reach the other side from the north. To reach the centre, Nişancı or Rami, the lorry approaches from the north and continues through the city. We plan the route and departure time during the site visit.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).

In practical terms, the figures reveal five different parts of Eyüpsultan:

  • Haliç waterfront and historic centre — Merkez, Nişancı, İslambey, Defterdar, Düğmeciler and Silahtarağa: 15–53% of streets are narrow or one-way; Nişancı is second highest in the district at 53%, and Merkez is at 41%. Gradients are 6.2–11.3%, with 34–62% of streets classed as steep; Silahtarağa is highest in this group on both measures. The District Governorate describes the flatter part of İslambey as having five or six storeys and the sloping part of Silahtarağa as one or two storeys; the map average for İslambey is a 9.4% gradient (source: Geographic Information about the District, accessed 30.09.2026). On narrow streets, we plan to keep the lorry on the main road and transfer belongings by trolley.
  • Rami–Topçular ridge — Rami Cuma, Rami Yeni and Topçular: 43–90% of streets are narrow or one-way; Rami Yeni is the highest in the district. The District Governorate says a planned grid settlement was built here in the 1940s (source: History of the District, accessed 30.09.2026). Gradients are 4.9% in Topçular, 6% in Rami Yeni and 11.2% in Rami Cuma; where floor data is available, buildings average 3.7 storeys in Rami Yeni and 4.5 in Rami Cuma. On narrow streets, we keep the lorry at a suitable corner and transfer the load.
  • Alibeyköy–Yeşilpınar–Güzeltepe hills — Alibeyköy, Çırçır, Akşemsettin, Yeşilpınar, Esentepe, Sakarya, Emniyettepe, Güzeltepe and Karadolap: gradients are 7.5–13.5%, with 48–72% of streets classed as steep; 0–14% are narrow or one-way. In 2026, the municipality made five streets in Güzeltepe and four in Akşemsettin one-way (sources: transport changes, traffic measures, accessed 30.09.2026). Five busy neighbourhoods have between 1,619 and 1,933 buildings; only Göktürk Merkez has more. Buildings with known floor data in Alibeyköy average 4.4 storeys. At hillside addresses, we position the lorry near the start of the route and choose where to set up an exterior lift during the site visit.
  • 5. Levent — north of Alibeyköy: the neighbourhood covers 8.2 km², with 6 km of local streets and 352 buildings. Buildings with known floor data average nine storeys, the highest among neighbourhoods with sufficient data. The average gradient is 5.4%, 6% of streets are narrow or one-way, and its 16 mapped parking areas are the most in the district. For a high-rise move, we arrange the goods-lift slot with building management and agree in advance where the lorry can wait.
  • Göktürk–Kemerburgaz development belt — Göktürk Merkez, Mimar Sinan and Mithatpaşa: gradients are 4.4–5.5%; 0–3% of streets are narrow and 25–36% are steep. Göktürk Merkez leads the district with 50 km of streets and 2,598 buildings; Mithatpaşa is the largest neighbourhood at 49.6 km². Residents describe narrow streets and cars parked in the road causing congestion. We confirm the development entrance and goods-lift time in advance.
  • Northern villages — Ağaçlı, Akpınar, Odayeri, Işıklar, Çiftalan, Pirinççi and İhsaniye: in September 2026, the Municipal Council approved rural settlement boundaries for these seven neighbourhoods; İBB approval is pending (source: Rural settlement areas for seven neighbourhoods, accessed 30.09.2026). Gradients are 4.3–5.6%, and 24–35% of streets are steep. Building counts range from 17 to 529, and there is not enough floor data. In İhsaniye, 30% of streets are narrow or one-way; elsewhere the figure is 0–6%. We choose a vehicle suited to the longer drive and village-road access during the site visit.

Urban renewal and building works

In October 2025, the municipality announced that a plan prepared with İBB for twelve neighbourhoods — Akşemsettin, Çırçır, Alibeyköy, Güzeltepe, Yeşilpınar, Karadolap, Merkez, Esentepe, Sakarya, Silahtarağa, Emniyettepe and 5. Levent — had passed the İBB Council and gone on public display. Under Law No. 6306, 90 buildings had been identified as risky by March 2025 and 80 had been demolished (sources: Plan for 12 neighbourhoods, demolition of risky buildings, accessed 30.09.2026). At the İBB-designated risk area in Akşemsettin–Çırçır, work on a 703-home project across 24.45 hectares began in February 2024 and is continuing. In Karadolap, a project office opened for a 17.3-hectare area and design work began (sources: Akşemsettin and Çırçır risk area, Karadolap project, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality held a meeting for neighbourhood headmen about identifying risky buildings, evacuation and demolition. Notices about evacuation dates appear to be shared through the muhtarlık offices; ask the local office or call (0212) 440 04 84 to confirm (source: Meeting on the risky-building process for muhtarlık offices, accessed 30.09.2026). We can pack belongings from a building being vacated, take them to storage and deliver them in one move when the new building is ready. The Urban Renewal Directorate can be reached on (0212) 440 04 84 (source: Urban Renewal Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026).

What residents say

Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.

  • Göktürk Merkez

Residents describe narrow streets, closely spaced new developments, cars parked in the road and limited parking in Göktürk. Posts also mention a street collapse and road flooding after rain, concerns about weaker ground near the stream, firmer ground on higher slopes and the nearby airport metro station.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: göktürk (2024-01 – 2025-05)

  • Mimar Sinan, Mithatpaşa

Posts say people unable to find rentals in Göktürk look to Kemerburgaz, where an airport metro stop was built beside the fire station on Selanik Boulevard. Older informal housing sits alongside luxury developments, and the third bridge, airport and metro have changed the area. One post recommends the firmer ground by the forest rather than the stream bed towards Göktürk, and describes reaching the opposite side via the Northern Marmara Motorway.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: kemerburgaz (2020-11 – 2026-03)

  • Alibeyköy

Posts describe large developments replacing informal housing, a lake being drained for a theme park and traffic spilling into side streets as car numbers rise. The area is remembered as having flooded after every downpour. Metro and tram construction brought poor or closed roads; since M7 and T5 opened, proximity to university campuses has made it a more sought-after location.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: alibeyköy (2017-10 – 2023-11)

  • Alibeyköy, 5. Levent

Posts say intercity coaches call at both terminals because this one is close to Esenler, and that it serves Şişli, Beşiktaş and Kağıthane. T5 takes around 40 minutes from Eminönü to its final stop; a footbridge and concrete channel lie between the tram stop and terminal. Vehicles arriving from the Asian side are described as entering after the Odayeri junction.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: alibeyköy cep otogarı (2024-08 – 2025-05)

  • 5. Levent

Posts describe thousands of homes on a small plot, surrounded by motorways, with TEM traffic noise and exhaust audible day and night; the area is beside Hasdal on the road to Alibeyköy Coach Terminal. They mention 30-storey residences, complaints about management, hot-water and heating faults, and security, alongside a financial centre, university campus and public institutions.

    several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: 5. levent (2018-01 – 2026-03)

  • Güzeltepe

Posts describe steep hills and hillside apartment blocks in Güzeltepe, with little change to the area's character apart from the 5. Levent development. An older post says the neighbourhood reaches TEM and Kemerburgaz to the north, includes part of the Alibeyköy Dam shore and contains Hasdal.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: güzeltepe (2006-09 – 2023-11)

  • Merkez, İslambey, Nişancı

Posts say successive construction projects in the centre have replaced connected side streets and scenic hillsides, with demolition and rebuilding continuing for years. Visitors are advised to avoid weekends because of crowds around the mosque, cable-car queue, tea gardens and car park; getting around by car is difficult.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: eyüp (2020-05 – 2025-06)

  • Merkez

Posts say that when a religious observance coincides with fine weather, the entire area around the mosque fills up, not just the mosque itself. On religious days, driving through or stopping in the centre becomes difficult.

single opinion · ekşi sözlük: eyüp sultan camii (2025-01)

  • Yeşilpınar

Yeşilpınar is described as well above Alibeyköy and close to Küçükköy and neighbourhoods in Gaziosmanpaşa and Sultangazi. Posts remember it as a quiet area with direct public-transport journeys to Eminönü, Şişli, Bakırköy and Taksim.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: yeşilpınar (2022-01 – 2023-01)

  • Rami Cuma, Rami Yeni

Rami is described as an area shared by Eyüpsultan, Gaziosmanpaşa and Bayrampaşa; its former wholesale market has become a library. Posts recall it as a modest, well-planned neighbourhood outside the city walls through much of the twentieth century.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: rami (2021-04 – 2024-08)

  • Topçular

An older post describes Topçular as stretching from the Fatih and E-5 side at one end to Bayrampaşa and the TEM connection at the other, and including large cemetery grounds.

single opinion · ekşi sözlük: topçular (2006-09)

  • Silahtarağa

An older post says many homes in the neighbourhood lacked title deeds for a long time, and that the area developed after the former power station became a university campus, with deeds issued later. The older informal housing fabric now sits beside the campus.

The moves we see most in Eyüpsultan

  • Urban-renewal clearances and storage: plans and ongoing demolitions cover twelve neighbourhoods; belongings may need to stay in storage for months. We can plan the move and storage together.
  • Moves into developments and high-rises — Göktürk, Kemerburgaz and 5. Levent: we agree management permission, goods-lift time and where the lorry can wait at the entrance in advance.
  • Moves between İstanbul's two sides: between the Asian side and Eyüpsultan, the lorry travels via Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, so we plan the day around the route.
  • Single-person and student homes (1+1, studios): small rented homes near the University stop on T5 and Alibeyköy campuses; fewer belongings, a smaller vehicle and a two-person team. A 1+1 means one bedroom and a living room.
  • Family homes (2+1, 3+1): flats in Yeşilpınar, Güzeltepe and Karadolap; on sloping streets, team size and an exterior lift are part of the plan. A 2+1 has two bedrooms and a living room; a 3+1 has three bedrooms and a living room.
  • Offices and shops: businesses around Eyüpsultan Boulevard, and institutions and business centres mentioned by residents in 5. Levent; work may need to take place outside business hours.
  • Moves to village homes: the seven rural neighbourhoods in the north mean a longer journey and narrow village roads; we choose the vehicle size during the site visit.

You can check the volume of your belongings and a suitable vehicle size on our moving calculator.

Eyüpsultan Municipality's new service building is at No. 72 Eyüpsultan Boulevard, Nişancı neighbourhood. Its switchboard is 444 30 00 and its WhatsApp contact line is 0536 906 30 30. Northern neighbourhoods can also contact the Göktürk Service Building on (0212) 440 05 55. The Municipal Police Directorate is on (0212) 440 04 35 and Cleaning Affairs on (0212) 440 04 90 (sources: Contact, Municipal Police Directorate, Cleaning Affairs Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate is at No. 26 Hz. Halit Boulevard, İslambey neighbourhood, alongside the Government House (source: District Governorate contact, accessed 30.09.2026).

Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: we could not find a published rule or fee on the municipality's website for a moving lorry or mobile lift temporarily using the road (accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipal Police page hosts a 2022 by-law on municipal orders and prohibitions, but we have not reviewed it to verify any requirements. In July 2025, Municipal Police said they had cleared pavement obstructions on Vardar Boulevard in Alibeyköy and that inspections would continue across the district (source: Pavements are being cleared, accessed 30.09.2026). We do not leave belongings on the pavement on moving day. On narrow one-way streets, calling (0212) 440 04 35 a day ahead may help.

Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: the municipality's waste schedule has three zones. Household waste is collected daily between 20.30 and 01.00 in the Eyüp and Alibeyköy zones to avoid disrupting traffic, and between 08.00 and 12.00 in Güzeltepe and Karadolap. Collection is 08.00–00.30 in Göktürk, 17.00–24.00 in Mimar Sinan and Mithatpaşa, and 08.00–16.00 in the northern village neighbourhoods. In Çiftalan, collection is only on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, 08.00–15.00 (source: Waste collection times, accessed 30.09.2026). Electrical items such as fridges, washing machines, air conditioners and televisions are collected from homes every Thursday; call 444 30 00 for information (source: Collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment, accessed 30.09.2026). We could not find a published contact route, appointment process or fee for rubble and old furniture. Municipality news says these items are collected by request, so the switchboard or WhatsApp line is a starting point (source: Güzeltepe cleaning campaign, accessed 30.09.2026). No separate day is published for packaging waste. We collect the boxes and packing materials left after the move.

Public transport

The M7 has stations at Alibeyköy, Çırçır Mahallesi, Veysel Karani–Akşemsettin and Yeşilpınar; the line runs from 06.00 to 24.00. Alibeyköy station is on a viaduct and connects with T5 (source: Metro İstanbul M7, accessed 30.09.2026). Eight of T5's 14 stops are in the district, with a transfer to the Şehir Hatları ferry pier at Feshane (source: Metro İstanbul T5, accessed 30.09.2026). The TF2 Eyüp–Piyer Loti cable car is also in the district (source: Metro İstanbul TF2, accessed 30.09.2026). The İBB layer shows T4 points in Topçular and Rami Yeni and M11 points in the north; we could not verify M11 service times. Work on the Eyüpsultan–Bayrampaşa tramway began in İslambey in September 2026, and staged excavation is narrowing the road (source: A tramway is coming to Eyüpsultan, accessed 30.09.2026). On moving day, narrowed lanes on central boulevards and congestion around Alibeyköy Metro may affect loading.
