Başakşehir removals

In Başakşehir, the plan depends on the phase number, site name, block letter and the goods-lift slot set by site management. Kayaşehir's high-rise blocks, the morning exit from Bahçeşehir and İkitelli OSB's gate hours shape the day's schedule.

Başakşehir was established in 2008 under Law No. 5747, bringing together neighbourhoods separated from Küçükçekmece and Esenler and the former town of Bahçeşehir, which had belonged to Büyükçekmece. The District Governorate places it 20 km west of the provincial centre, at an elevation of 105 metres; it is an inland district with no coastline and forested land to the north. Its 2025 population was 536,797, and more than half of residents live in mass-housing developments. No area figure has been published (sources: Geography, Local Authorities, Municipal history, accessed 30.09.2026).

The official list has 10 neighbourhoods, including Şamlar: Altınşehir, Bahçeşehir 1. Kısım, Bahçeşehir 2. Kısım, Başak, Başakşehir, Güvercintepe, Kayabaşı, Şahintepe, Şamlar and Ziya Gökalp. The District Governorate and Municipality use the same names. Our map follows the OSM layer, which shows İkitelli OSB as a separate area and Malkoçoğlu within its boundary, but does not draw Şamlar separately. The access profile below is therefore calculated from 11 polygons (source: Muhtarlık offices, accessed 30.09.2026).

The car route from Sancaktepe to Başakşehir is approximately 48–56 km and takes 35–45 minutes in free-flowing traffic (OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). The route is longer for our lorry because it must use Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.

Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry

Coming from İstanbul's Asian side, our lorry uses Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge; the 15 July Martyrs and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges are closed to lorries. The Eurasia Tunnel tariff does not list a lorry class. We choose an exit from the Northern Marmara Motorway or the TEM according to the address and time (sources: Highways restrictions and prohibitions, Eurasia Tunnel tariffs, accessed 30.09.2026).

Başakşehir map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations

The map shows 11 polygons, 10 muhtarlık offices (local headmen's offices where residence can be registered), M3 and M9 stations, M7 and M11 stops marked as under construction in the İBB layer, and taxi ranks. Satellite view distinguishes the Kayaşehir blocks from the denser patterns in Güvercintepe and Şahintepe.

Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood

Categories show relative differences within the district. Storey data is insufficient in some neighbourhoods, so we do not infer building heights there. Gradient is an approximate comparison between neighbourhoods, calculated from a surface model that also includes roofs.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).

In practical terms:

  • Planned high-rise blocks — Kayabaşı, Başakşehir and Ziya Gökalp: buildings with storey data average 13.4–16.1 storeys; 5–9% of streets are narrow or one-way. Near M3 and M9 stations, confirm the loading point, site permission and lift booking in advance.
  • Başak (Phases 4 and 5): the polygon covers 24.5 km² and has 9.1 km of local streets; 22% of streets are narrow or one-way. Başakşehir-Metrokent M3 station is within this polygon, while Fenertepe is marked as under construction in the İBB layer. We agree the lorry's entrance and exit direction in advance.
  • İkitelli OSB (shown separately on the map): 20% of streets in this 6.8 km² polygon are narrow or one-way, and it contains M3 and M9 stations. For workshop and office moves, cooperative gate hours and industrial traffic determine the loading time.
  • Bahçeşehir 1. and 2. Kısım: average gradients are 6.6% and 6.4%; 4% and 11% of streets respectively are narrow or one-way. The İBB layer marks an M7 station here as under construction. In light of the morning traffic residents describe, we plan around the TEM connection.
  • The three denser neighbourhoods — Güvercintepe, Şahintepe and Altınşehir: average gradients are 6.3–8.3%, and 39–50% of streets are steep; Güvercintepe is the district's steepest neighbourhood. OSM has no mapped data for narrow streets or car parks. Residents in Şahintepe mention roadside parking, and storey data is insufficient. On moving day, the lorry's waiting point and the carrying distance on steep or narrow streets are key.
  • Malkoçoğlu: the OSM boundary covers 0.6 km²; 25% of streets are narrow or one-way, and there is no storey data. As Malkoçoğlu is not on the official list of 10 neighbourhoods, we check the district boundary separately when confirming an address.

Phases, sites, OSB and the City Hospital

Address checks work differently in Başakşehir. The muhtarlık names reflect the phase system: the Municipality lists the Başakşehir Mahallesi muhtarlık office as covering Phases 1 and 2, and the Başak Mahallesi office as covering Phases 4 and 5. Residents say block names in Kayaşehir housing developments mix letters and numbers and do not follow a sequence. Our site-visit form records the neighbourhood, phase, site name, block and door number separately, and we ask someone to meet the lorry at the site entrance (source: Muhtarlık offices, accessed 30.09.2026).

According to the District Governorate's 2019 page, İkitelli Organised Industrial Zone is just north of the TEM and covers 700 hectares, with 38 cooperatives and 24,864 workplaces. The Municipality's economic profile gives 30,000 workplaces; the figures differ, and we report both as published (sources: İkitelli Organised Industrial Zone, Economic structure, accessed 30.09.2026). For a workshop move, machinery weight, ramp access and the cooperative site's gate hours are the first three questions during the site visit.

The District Governorate says Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital has 2,682 beds and 10 blocks. The Municipality gives its address as Olimpiyat Bulvarı Yolu and refers to around 10,000 staff; an M3 station has the same name. Atatürk Olympic Stadium sits within the 584-hectare Olympic Park, with parking for 18,900 vehicles, while Fatih Terim Stadium is in Başak Mahallesi. We adjust loading times around Olimpiyat Bulvarı on match and event days. We expect a similar effect around the arena at Bahçeşehir Gölet on concert days (sources: City Hospital, Municipality hospital page, Economic structure, Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Fatih Terim Stadium, Bahçeşehir Gölet, accessed 30.09.2026).

What residents say

Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.

  • Kayabaşı, Başakşehir, Başak

Writers say construction is under way across almost every part of the district, with sites built on vacant land and new blocks reaching at least 20 storeys. They also say existing main roads are inadequate because no new roads have been built.

The moves we see most in Başakşehir

  • Moves into sites and newly completed developments: Başakşehir's phases, Kayaşehir, Onurkent and Bahçeşehir; site rules, goods-lift bookings and confirming the block are central to the plan.
  • Family homes (2+1, 3+1): a common move in a district with many mass-housing developments; we include packing, dismantling and a place for the lorry within the site. In Turkish home listings, 2+1 means two bedrooms plus a living room; 3+1 means three bedrooms plus a living room.
  • Single-person homes (1+1, studios): people arriving for the City Hospital or nearby universities may need a smaller vehicle and a two-person team. 1+1 means one bedroom plus a living room.
  • Workshops, shops and offices: moves from İkitelli OSB's cooperative sites and industrial plots in Kayabaşı, including shelving, machinery and archives, are scheduled outside business hours.
  • Urban-renewal clearances and storage: İBB's planning note covers Bahçeşehir 1. and 2. Kısım, Başak, Başakşehir and Ziya Gökalp. While a building is renewed, we can plan the move and storage together.
  • Moves between the two sides of the city: between the Asian side and Başakşehir, the first decisions include the lorry's crossing via Yavuz Sultan Selim and the motorway exit.

Başakşehir Municipality's main service building is at No. 2, 15 Temmuz Sokak, Kayabaşı Mahallesi, next to Başakşehir Central Mosque. There is an additional service building at No. 5, Şehit Polis Gaffar Okkan Caddesi, Bahçeşehir 2. Kısım. All enquiries are handled through the single BİKOM contact centre number, 444 0 669; the website does not publish a WhatsApp number. The Municipal Police Directorate is at No. 9F, Belediye Ek Hizmet Binaları, Polatkan Sokak, Başakşehir Mahallesi (sources: Address and contact details, What is BİKOM?, Municipal Police, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate's address appears in two forms on its website: No. 16, Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Caddesi, Başak Mahallesi on the transport page, and No. 3, Akşemsettin Caddesi, Başak Mahallesi in the footer. Its switchboard is (0212) 488 49 40 (source: Transport, accessed 30.09.2026).

Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: we could not find a published rule or fee on the Municipality's website for a moving vehicle or mobile lift temporarily using the road (accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipal Police service standards list pavement occupation, illegal rubble dumping and traffic management, but no item specific to moving. For neighbourhoods with narrow streets or addresses where the lorry must stop outside a site, the best option is to ask BİKOM on 444 0 669 the day before.

Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: there is no separate Cleaning Affairs Directorate; the Waste Management Unit within the Environmental Protection and Control Directorate handles this work. Its service list includes rubble collection and taking away used furniture. The page does not publish a day, contact line or booking method. The Zero Waste page says free household sorting equipment is distributed and that the Municipality works with site management, but does not give packaging collection days (sources: Environmental Protection and Control, Zero Waste service, accessed 30.09.2026). We collect boxes and packing materials on moving day; we can discuss asking BİKOM about old furniture during the site visit.

Urban renewal: the Municipality has no separate Urban Transformation Directorate. Work under Law No. 6306 sits with the Urban Design Unit in the Planning and Projects Directorate; the Zoning and Urban Planning Directorate issues demolition permits. İBB's planning-note amendment of 10.05.2022 covers plans for buildings at risk in Bahçeşehir 1. Kısım, Bahçeşehir 2. Kısım, Başak, Başakşehir and Ziya Gökalp. İBB's field and mobile office lists have no Başakşehir location (sources: Planning and Projects, Zoning and Urban Planning, İBB planning note amendment, accessed 30.09.2026). When an evacuation date is set, we can pack and store belongings, then move them in one trip when the new building is ready.

Public transport

Our profile shows the M3 Bakırköy Sahil–Kayaşehir Merkez line's İkitelli Sanayi, Turgut Özal, Siteler, Başak Konutları, Başakşehir-Metrokent, Onurkent, Şehir Hastanesi, Toplu Konutlar and Kayaşehir Merkez stations within the district polygons. According to Metro İstanbul, the Onurkent–Kayaşehir Merkez section opened on 08.04.2023. The line starts service at 06.00 and runs until midnight; its depot is at the Olimpiyat campus. The M9 Ataköy–Olimpiyat line shares a concourse with M3 at İkitelli Sanayi, crosses Ziya Gökalp Mahallesi and terminates at Olimpiyat; it operates from 06.00 to 24.00 (sources: Metro İstanbul M3, M9, accessed 30.09.2026). Both line pages mention an M11 connection at Kayaşehir Merkez and Olimpiyat. The M11 detail page could not be opened on the research date, and the İBB station layer still marks Kayaşehir Merkez, Olimpiyat and Fenertepe as under construction for M11; we could not verify the status of the Halkalı section from these sources. The same layer marks an M7 station in Bahçeşehir 2. Kısım as under construction. Metro İstanbul's project list calls the line M7 Mahmutbey–Esenyurt but does not list the Bahçeşehir name or an opening date (source: All lines, accessed 30.09.2026). There are no Marmaray or Metrobüs stations in the district; the nearest connections are İncirli from M3 and Yenibosna from M9 for Metrobüs, and Özgürlük Meydanı from M3 and Ataköy from M9 for Marmaray. The İBB layer still marks Masko as under construction on M9, while Metro İstanbul's M9 page lists it as open. For moving day, we expect early morning busier periods around Metrokent and Kayaşehir Merkez; residents describe frequent speed bumps, so a loaded lorry travels slowly around stations and within sites.
