Kağıthane removals
Moving in Kağıthane comes down to two questions: is the address on the valley floor or the hillside, and which bridge can the lorry use? Çağlayan's one-way streets, Gültepe's steep slopes and Cendere's office plots each call for a different plan.
For Kağıthane removals, we head into the valley of the Kağıthane Stream, which runs down to the Golden Horn, and the hillsides on either side; the district has no shoreline. The municipality says the district covers 16 km², is one of İstanbul's seven smallest districts and separated from Şişli in 1987. The O-1 (E-5) marks its southern edge, the O-2 (TEM) passes to the north, and the Okmeydanı–Hasdal connection cuts across the district from north to south (source: Kağıthane Municipality, About Kağıthane Municipality, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate describes steep ridges; as we could not find official gradient or elevation figures, the access profile below uses our own map calculations (source: History of the district, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality and İBB list 19 neighbourhoods. Sanayi Mahallesi is officially called Sultan Selim today; the M2 station has kept its old name.
The car-profile route from our Sancaktepe base to Kağıthane is about 30–36 km: Çağlayan is 30 km away, the district centre 32 km and Nurtepe 36 km. In free-flowing traffic, this profile takes 25–30 minutes; an early-morning departure is likely to be close to that estimate (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). This car route uses either the 15 July Martyrs Bridge or the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. Our lorry cannot cross there, so it takes the longer route via Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. We do not give a separate lorry distance or journey time; we agree the departure time during the site visit.
Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry
The General Directorate of Highways restrictions list says the 15 July Martyrs Bridge is open only to first-class vehicles and passenger-carrying minibuses; lorries and buses cannot use the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and lorries are directed to the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. The Eurasia Tunnel tariff lists cars, minibuses and motorcycles, but no lorry class (sources: KGM restrictions and prohibitions, Eurasia Tunnel tolls, accessed 30.09.2026). A lorry loaded on the Asian side therefore approaches from the north and enters the district from TEM, via the Okmeydanı–Hasdal connection described by the municipality or the Seyrantepe exit. Smaller vehicles used for smaller moves have different bridge classifications; we confirm which vehicle will come by phone.
Kağıthane map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations
The map shows the boundaries of all 19 neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, M7 and M11 stations within the district, and taxi ranks. In satellite view, the broad plots of Cendere valley sit alongside the dense hillside fabric of Gültepe–Çeliktepe.
Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood
These categories compare Kağıthane's neighbourhoods with one another. No neighbourhood has an average gradient below 6%; even the four least steep average about 8%. Building storey counts are missing from the map in almost every neighbourhood, so we check floors and lifts during the site visit.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).
Here is what the figures mean on moving day:
- Valley floor and centre – Merkez, Hamidiye, Gültepe and Ortabayır: average gradients are 7.9–8.8%, with 46–50% of street length classed as steep; the share of one-way or narrow streets is 4–28%. Hamidiye covers 3.1 km² and Merkez 2.1 km²; the map shows 11 and 24 car parks respectively, while none are mapped in Gültepe or Ortabayır. Gültepe has 953 buildings in 0.2 km², with no floor data. A lorry can reach the door in Cendere; on Gültepe's winding main street, we may need to leave it at the street entrance and carry items on hand trolleys.
- The one-way belt beside E-5 – Çağlayan, Hürriyet, Telsizler and Gürsel: 28–43% of streets are narrow or one-way; Çağlayan has the district's highest share. Average gradients are 10.5–11.9%, and 61–69% of streets are steep, with Gürsel highest at 69%. Çağlayan has nine mapped car parks and Gürsel two; none are mapped in Hürriyet or Telsizler. The map records 19 buildings in Hürriyet and 54 in Gürsel; only Gürsel has enough floor data, averaging 8–9 storeys. Because parking is pressured around the courthouse, we stop the lorry on a side street and finish loading early.
- The hills on the Levent boundary – Çeliktepe, Emniyetevleri, Harmantepe and Yahya Kemal: 4–18% of streets are narrow or one-way; average gradients are 9.5–11.9%, with 57–68% of streets steep. The map records 1,688 buildings in Çeliktepe and 1,434 in Harmantepe; Emniyetevleri is the district's smallest neighbourhood at 0.19 km². Mapped car parks number one, two, one and four respectively; floor data is limited. During the visit, we identify a level place for the lorry and, if needed, approach from İsmet İnönü Avenue.
- Mixed northern neighbourhoods – Seyrantepe, Sultan Selim (formerly Sanayi) and Yeşilce: 1–9% of streets are narrow or one-way; average gradients are 9.4–10.7%, and 58–61% of streets are steep. The map records 1,951 buildings in Sultan Selim, 1,372 in Seyrantepe and 1,079 in Yeşilce. Mapped car parks number 15 in Seyrantepe, five in Sultan Selim and two in Yeşilce; buildings with available data in Seyrantepe average 4–5 storeys. Residents say the Thursday market in Sultan Selim can close the street, so we schedule the move for another day.
- The western hills – Nurtepe, Şirintepe, Mehmet Akif Ersoy and Talatpaşa: this is the district's steepest belt, with average gradients of 10.9–15.1%; Şirintepe is the steepest neighbourhood at 15.1%, and 62–68% of streets are steep across the group. The share of one-way or narrow streets is 3% in Şirintepe, 1% in Mehmet Akif Ersoy, 13% in Nurtepe and 23% in Talatpaşa. Nurtepe has 1,258 buildings and Şirintepe 1,150; Mehmet Akif Ersoy has 5.9 km of local streets and 6.4 km of main roads. Only Talatpaşa has mapped car parks (five); floor data is sparse or absent throughout the group. On these slopes, we bring the lorry in from above, at the top of the street, and load downhill; the site visit may call for a larger team and a longer hand-trolley carry.
What residents say
Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.
- Çağlayan, Merkez, Ortabayır
Kağıthane is often associated with hills; one writer compares the climb up from Çağlayan to strenuous exercise. A longer post says parking on both sides of two-way roads leaves only one lane, short streets are used as car parks, a hillside market blocks the only way back, and vehicles have to be moved before concrete mixers can reach urban-renewal sites. The same thread says metro links have attracted company offices and new housing schemes, and praises Ortabayır as central with solid ground.

- Sultan Selim, Merkez
Residents write that vehicles block street entrances at night, and sometimes during the day, and that this has become normal; they describe parking as a serious problem. The area is said to be hilly throughout, making it hard to get around without a vehicle. The former Sanayi Mahallesi is described as a mixed business area where car repair shops, agencies, studios and entertainment venues sit side by side; several posts also raise earthquake concerns about older buildings.

- Gültepe
One resident says they commute by minibus and metro so they do not lose a parking space found on the street, and that cars in side streets can remain unmoved for a week; another says even dead ends, the middle of lanes and the steepest hills are full of vehicles. Traffic at the entrance to Talatpaşa Avenue, crowded minibuses at morning and evening peaks, and ongoing construction are recurring complaints. A renewal project begun in 2017 is also said to have remained an unfinished building site for years; the area is described as suitable for students and young workers.

- Gültepe
The neighbourhood is described as tightly packed, with buildings descending the hill and a very narrow main road that winds like a snake. Its proximity to Levent and a single bus route reaching many places are seen as advantages; residents say it is cool because it sits high up and that the ground is rocky.
single opinion · ekşi sözlük: gültepe (2022-07)
- Çeliktepe
Writers describe it as a neighbourhood on the boundary of Büyükdere Avenue. They say İsmet İnönü Avenue is its main route and that there is a gendarmerie station on the boundary.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: çeliktepe (2023-07 – 2025-12)
- Ortabayır, Emniyetevleri
Residents describe two parts of the neighbourhood: the level Bacadibi area and the slope down towards Zincirlikuyu Cemetery. Alongside three residential towers, they praise being a five-to-ten-minute walk from Levent and Çeliktepe. One resident complains about being woken each morning by a car; another says the streets are narrow and homes old and small, and writes that they chose a home in Emniyetevleri instead. Emniyetevleri, Çeliktepe and Ortabayır are mentioned as choices for university students and workers.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: ortabayır (2022-03 – 2026-04)
- Çağlayan, Nurtepe
Writers say the area is steep throughout, that drivers often ignore one-way rules, parking is scarce and even side streets climb uphill; one exaggerated comparison says a car's nose almost points straight up in Nurtepe. A resident says two- and three-storey buildings on Vatan Avenue have become five storeys and the area much more crowded. They also report that an incident outside the courthouse in October 2025 closed the area to traffic for the day and brought bridge traffic to a standstill.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: çağlayan (2022-07 – 2026-07)
- Çağlayan, Gürsel
People visiting the courthouse say they spent 40 minutes looking for a parking space and missed their hearings, and advise against arriving by car. According to one 2026 post, there is no car park open to civilian visitors; only staff and lawyers can use it. Writers say this puts pressure on parking in nearby streets.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: istanbul adalet sarayı (2024-09 – 2026-07)
- Talatpaşa
The neighbourhood is described as an extension of Okmeydanı where parking is nearly impossible in many places; one post says a rubbish lorry scraped parked cars at night. Writers also say it is within walking distance of the Metrobus and easy to reach. One writer thinks the buildings are not earthquake-resistant.
single opinion · ekşi sözlük: talatpaşa mahallesi (2025-12)
- Sultan Selim, Çeliktepe
Posts say it is almost impossible to find a parking space in the neighbourhood now called Sultan Selim, even after circling several times. They criticise the lack of green space and crowded, close-set housing, while naming its central location as the main advantage. Residents of Çeliktepe are said to come here for the Thursday market.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: sanayi mahallesi (2022-05 – 2025-01)
- Merkez
The post notes that Cendere Road was renamed Azerbaijan Avenue; either name may appear in navigation apps.

The moves we see most in Kağıthane
- Moves between the two sides of the city: between the Asian side and Kağıthane; the bridge restriction and departure time are the first items in the plan.
- Office and studio moves: along Cendere, where residents say many companies have moved offices, and in the former Sanayi Mahallesi, with its agencies, studios and workshops; we plan out-of-hours work, separate packing for equipment and a goods-lift booking.
- Single-person homes (1+1 – one bedroom plus a living room, or a studio): student and young professional moves in Gültepe, Çeliktepe, Emniyetevleri and Ortabayır; there may be fewer belongings but plenty of hills.
- Family homes (2+1 or 3+1 – two or three bedrooms plus a living room): in the apartment blocks of Merkez, Hamidiye, Seyrantepe and Çağlayan, we plan dismantling, packing and a place for the lorry.
- New developments and gated-site deliveries: in new housing schemes that residents say have grown alongside metro connections, site rules, goods-lift slots and construction traffic all need to be coordinated.
- Urban-renewal clearances and storage: the municipality says about 1,300 buildings have been renewed in the past seven years, with 7,200 independent units demolished and 12,000 homes built in their place (source: Urban Renewal Project, accessed 30.09.2026). As belongings from a cleared home may need to wait for months, we plan the move and storage together.
You can check the volume of your belongings and a suitable vehicle size on our moving calculator.

Sadabad Service Building is at No. 1 Lalezar Street, Merkez neighbourhood; the call centre is 444 23 00, and requests and complaints are taken through the e-municipality service (source: Contact, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate is at No. 8 Cendere Avenue, Merkez neighbourhood; its switchboard is 0212 294 07 54 (source: District Governorate contact, accessed 30.09.2026).
Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: the Municipal Police Directorate page lists general provisions from the national municipal police regulation, including preventing vehicles from obstructing roads and pavements. We could not find a published Kağıthane-specific rule or fee for a removals vehicle or mobile lift (source: Municipal Police Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality also says building managers must arrange annual inspections of lifts in the district; if we plan to use a building lift for belongings, we check its inspection label during the visit (source: Annual lift inspection notice, accessed 30.09.2026). In Çağlayan and Telsizler, which have the district's highest shares of one-way streets, we bring the lorry into the street before 07.00.
Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: the Municipal Cleaning Directorate says household rubbish is collected daily and that collecting renovation rubble and old household furniture for disposal is among its duties. No separate collection phone line, booking method or fee is published, so it appears necessary to ask the call centre on 444 23 00 (source: Municipal Cleaning Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). Packaging, glass and batteries are collected separately, but the website has no schedule (source: Climate Protection and Control Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). We take away the moving boxes and packing materials on moving day.
Public transport
The driverless M7 Yıldız–Mahmutbey line has Çağlayan, Kağıthane and Nurtepe stations within the district. Kağıthane station is on a viaduct; the line runs 06.00–00.00 and connects at Kağıthane with the M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Airport line (source: Metro İstanbul M7, accessed 30.09.2026). On the M2 Yenikapı–Hacıosman line, a shuttle runs from Sanayi Mahallesi station to Seyrantepe every 8.5 minutes throughout the day. İBB's station layer places both stations just outside the district boundary, so they are not included in the list below, but they are the nearest metro stations for addresses in Sultan Selim and Seyrantepe (source: Metro İstanbul M2, accessed 30.09.2026). We could not find a separate Metro İstanbul line page for M11, so we do not give its hours or frequency here. There is no ferry pier, as the district has no shoreline. For a move, this means Kağıthane is an interchange between two lines; the streets around Çağlayan can be busy with pedestrians and service vehicles in the morning and evening, so we start loading early at those addresses.

Urban renewal and road works
İBB's plan-note amendment on buildings at risk covers all 19 neighbourhoods; among the amended plans it names Gürsel neighbourhood's Risk Area plan and the plan for the western part of Seyrantepe (source: İBB, Kağıthane plan-note amendment, accessed 30.09.2026). The Çağlayan Square and Surroundings Risk Area in Gürsel covers 2.4 hectares: the courthouse is to its east, and D-100 and Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital to its south; preliminary agreements have begun (source: İBB, Gürsel neighbourhood, Kağıthane, accessed 30.09.2026). A 2026 municipality news item says Turan Street in Sultan Selim is being reorganised because of irregular parking, while an approximately 400-metre E-5 connection route on Şevket Paşa Avenue and Çampark Street in Gürsel is being renewed (source: Transport infrastructure strengthened in Kağıthane, accessed 30.09.2026). Residents often describe construction traffic, including concrete mixers climbing narrow streets, so during the site visit we ask about nearby works and choose the lorry's stopping point accordingly.
Neighbouring districts
The municipality's introduction says Kağıthane borders Şişli to the south, Beşiktaş to the north-east, Beyoğlu to the south-west, and Eyüpsultan to the west and north-west. Its text still places the Ayazağa area under Şişli, although Ayazağa does not appear in Şişli's current neighbourhood list. Our pages for Şişli, Beşiktaş, Sarıyer, Eyüpsultan and Beyoğlu are available. For the whole city, see our İstanbul removals page.
