Gaziosmanpaşa removals
Gaziosmanpaşa packs 16 neighbourhoods into 11.7 km². It is not the distance that makes a move difficult, but building works on the Sarıgöl hillside, one-way streets around the square and, according to residents, cars parked on the pavement along the main road in Karadeniz.
Gaziosmanpaşa removals cover a small but densely built-up district. When the district was divided into three in 2008, its area fell from 3,500 hectares to 1,173 hectares, about 11.7 km², and its neighbourhood count from 29 to 16. Today it borders Sultangazi to the north, Eyüpsultan to the east and south, and Bayrampaşa to the west (source: Geographic Structure, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate gives a population of approximately 478,000 without specifying a year; divided by the area, that implies a density of roughly 40,000 people per km² (source: Local Authorities, accessed 30.09.2026). Our mapped neighbourhood polygons also total 11.7 km². Karayolları is the largest neighbourhood at 1.54 km² and Pazariçi the smallest at 0.29 km². The District Governorate says Taşlıtarla grew with housing for migrants, the district separated from Eyüp in 1963, and Küçükköy is its oldest centre (source: History, accessed 30.09.2026). An older economic profile describes construction activity and excavation contractors as widespread (source: Economic and Cultural Structure, accessed 30.09.2026); an older building and a construction site may share the same street on moving day.
From Sancaktepe to Gaziosmanpaşa is approximately 40–42 km by car, with a free-flow drive of 30–35 minutes (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). The route uses either the 15 Temmuz Şehitler or FSM Bridge. Lorries cannot use these bridges and must take the longer route via Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge; distance and time vary by vehicle.
Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry
For moves between İstanbul's two sides, the lorry uses Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge; lorries are not allowed on the 15 Temmuz Şehitler or FSM bridges. The Eurasia Tunnel toll table has no lorry class (sources: KGM restrictions, Eurasia Tunnel tolls, accessed 30.09.2026). İBB's planning note uses the name "Merkez south of TEM" to describe the district's location (source: Planning note amendment for buildings at risk, accessed 30.09.2026). The lorry approaches from the north, via Karadeniz or Karayolları. During the site visit, we decide where it can stop around one-way streets, the square and the tramway.
Gaziosmanpaşa map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations
The map shows the boundaries of all 16 neighbourhoods, 15 muhtarlık points in the İBB layer, the M7 and T4 stations within the district boundary, and taxi ranks. In satellite view, the large development plots and towers along TEM in Karadeniz and Karayolları sit alongside the smaller, densely packed plots on the Sarıgöl–Yenidoğan hillside.
Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood
The categories are relative to Gaziosmanpaşa's own 16 neighbourhoods. Average gradients exceed 6% in every neighbourhood; what we call flat here could be considered sloping in another district. Floor data is available for only 7% of mapped buildings in Merkez, and little or none in the other 15 neighbourhoods, so we check building height and lift access during the site visit. We compare the share of one-way or narrow streets, gradient, building count and mapped parking instead.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).
In practical terms, the figures translate as follows:
- Along TEM, with larger development plots — Karadeniz and Karayolları: the neighbourhoods cover 1.38 and 1.54 km², with 29.9 and 22.2 km of local streets. Karadeniz leads the district with 3,210 buildings; Karayolları has 2,385. Some 57–68% of streets are narrow or one-way; gradients are 6.7–7%, with 43–48% of streets classed as steep. There are four mapped parking areas in Karadeniz and one in Karayolları; both neighbourhoods have M7 stations. For moves into developments, as residents describe them, we confirm management arrangements and the goods-lift slot in advance. Cars parked on the pavement may reduce the space available for the lorry.
- The square and market streets — Merkez and Hürriyet: 59% of streets are one-way or narrow; the one-way share is 59% in Hürriyet and 44% in Merkez, making Hürriyet second in the district after Karadeniz on this measure. Average gradients are 6.4–7%, with 45–51% of streets classed as steep. The neighbourhoods have 2,041 and 1,464 buildings; Merkez has seven mapped parking areas, the most in the district, and Hürriyet has one. In Merkez, buildings with known floor data average 4.7 storeys. The T4 Sağmalcılar–Pancar Motor stop and the District Governorate are also here. Residents describe the square as a junction where at least eight or nine roads meet; minibus traffic shapes the loading time. At main-road addresses, we start before 07.00; around the square, we keep the lorry on a side street.
- Steep, congested belt — Şemsipaşa, Kazım Karabekir, Mevlana and Yıldıztabya: 51–89% of streets are narrow or one-way; Yıldıztabya is the highest in the district. Gradients are 8–9.5%, and 53–63% of streets are steep; building counts range from 755 to 2,175. There is no mapped parking in Şemsipaşa or Kazım Karabekir, three areas in Mevlana and two in Yıldıztabya. M7's Kazım Karabekir station falls within Mevlana's polygon. We keep the lorry on a main road and plan the uphill transfer and exterior-lift position during the site visit.
- Hillside and urban-renewal neighbourhoods — Sarıgöl, Yenidoğan, Bağlarbaşı, Pazariçi and Karlıtepe: 5–28% of streets are narrow or one-way; gradients are 8.1–10.3%, with 51–69% of streets classed as steep. Yenidoğan leads the district with a 10.3% gradient and 69% steep streets. The three smallest neighbourhoods are Pazariçi (0.29 km²), Yenidoğan (0.31 km²) and Karlıtepe (0.33 km²); they have 889–1,576 buildings. Only Bağlarbaşı has mapped parking, with two areas; floor data is insufficient. For clearances and development handovers described by residents, we agree the time in advance to avoid construction traffic and arrange entry permission for new developments.
- The Küçükköy area — Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa, Yeni Mahalle and Fevzi Çakmak: the District Governorate calls Küçükköy the district's oldest centre; residents say it extends across these three neighbourhoods and Kazım Karabekir. 12–30% of streets are one-way or narrow; average gradients are 6.3–9%, with 42–57% of streets steep. Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa is the district's least steep neighbourhood, with 42% steep streets; Fevzi Çakmak has the group's highest average gradient at 9%. Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa has 2,738 buildings, the second most after Karadeniz; Yeni Mahalle has 1,740 and Fevzi Çakmak 771. Mapped parking areas number six in Fevzi Çakmak, four in Yeni Mahalle and none in Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa. One visitor describes single-lane roads, unclear contraflow arrangements and sections closed off by barriers; we confirm the entry and exit direction during the site visit.
Risk areas and building works: neighbourhoods awaiting renewal
The only official document we found about urban renewal in Gaziosmanpaşa is İBB's planning-note page. An amendment to the risk-building note for the 1:5,000 Gaziosmanpaşa Merkez South of TEM Revised Master Plan, approved on 21.09.2004, names 15 neighbourhoods, excluding Karayolları (source: Planning note amendment for buildings at risk, accessed 30.09.2026). İBB's project list has no project, reserve area or settlement office specifically for Gaziosmanpaşa; the closest listing is the neighbouring Karadolap project in Eyüpsultan (sources: Projects, Karadolap urban-renewal project, accessed 30.09.2026). We could not find an official page confirming whether these neighbourhoods have designated risk areas or TOKİ renewal projects. The municipality's Urban Renewal Directorate page was unavailable from outside Türkiye on the research date. What we know about these areas comes from residents' accounts: demolitions and legal proceedings in Sarıgöl, followed by block-by-block handovers, and a long-standing expectation of renewal and title-deed issues in Pazariçi. Our process does not change: on the agreed clearance date, we pack belongings and take them to storage, set aside what is needed at the temporary address, then deliver from storage when the new flat is ready. For new developments, we check the height clearance of the covered car-park entrance and the goods lift before handover.
What residents say
Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.
- Sarıgöl
Residents say part of the neighbourhood was demolished for urban renewal and replaced with developments with swimming pools, while the rest of the project was delayed by legal proceedings. Posts from 2023 describe TOKİ blocks going up around the clock and predict developments for thousands of families within a few years.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: sarıgöl mahallesi (2020–2023)
- Sarıgöl
Older posts describe Sarıgöl as a hilly neighbourhood on a rise. One driver says a steepening road from a side street to the main road forced them to reverse back down. Posts also place the lower edge of the neighbourhood by the stream along İstanbul Avenue.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: sarıgöl mahallesi (2002–2010)
- Karadeniz
Residents describe the development and shopping centre as a group of very tall towers beside TEM, Küçükköy Cemetery and Metris. They see being caught in Metris traffic as a drawback and the tram outside and M7 below as advantages; posts also mention deliveries taking months longer than expected.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: viaport venezia (2013–2015)
- Karadeniz
Recent posts describe the complex as a local centre served by the T4 tram and M7 metro, used daily by people living along the lines. It is visible from TEM and regarded as a convenient roadside stop.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: viaport venezia (2023–2026)
- Merkez
Residents describe the square, with a mosque at its centre, as a busy minibus junction where at least eight or nine roads meet. Its branches lead to Bereç, Beşyüzevler beneath the bridge, Küçükköy, downhill to İslambey from the municipality side, and on to Rami and Pazariçi.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: gaziosmanpaşa meydanı (2013)
- Merkez
One resident says a community centre opened on the former stadium site in spring 2024, with parking and a market below and sports areas above, near the square. Another post on the same page describes numerous large developments rising over the past decade on the slope from the centre towards Eyüp.
single opinion · ekşi sözlük: gaziosmanpaşa (2024)
- Yeni Mahalle, Kazım Karabekir, Fevzi Çakmak, Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa
A visitor says single-lane roads, unclear contraflow arrangements and excavated sections closed by barriers made it difficult to find the way back. An older post says Küçükköy extends across Yeni Mahalle, Kazım Karabekir, Fevzi Çakmak and Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa; a newer one says it is known for the petrol station at its entrance and its hills.
single opinion · ekşi sözlük: küçükköy (2007–2019)
- Karadeniz
Residents say the main road has no pavement in places, or one only about a metre wide. Shop encroachment, cars parked on the pavement and utility poles push pedestrians into the road; posts also mention the number 36 bus serving the neighbourhood.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: karadeniz mahallesi (2004–2017)
- Yıldıztabya, Karlıtepe
Residents say the area lies between Gaziosmanpaşa and Eyüp, closer to Eyüp, and has a long avenue bearing its name; minibuses run to the centre. Posts also place Karlıtepe in the same area and note that postal workers sometimes confuse it with another neighbourhood.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: yıldıztabya (2009–2016)
- Pazariçi
Residents say the neighbourhood was established by Balkan migrants in the 1950s and that many homes still lack clear title deeds. Some hillside homes have views of the Haliç; they also say the municipal bus service became less frequent and was later withdrawn around 2010, while expectations of urban renewal have persisted for years.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: pazariçi (2013–2014)
- Bağlarbaşı
Residents describe a busy commercial street in the neighbourhood bearing its name, sometimes called a little İstiklal Avenue.

The moves we see most in Gaziosmanpaşa
- Urban-renewal clearances and storage: renewal areas described by residents in Sarıgöl and the long-awaited changes in Pazariçi; we can plan the clearance, storage and move into the new block together.
- New development handovers: towers along TEM and new blocks in Sarıgöl described by residents; we confirm the goods-lift slot, lorry access and security registration in advance.
- Family homes (2+1, 3+1): terraced apartment blocks in Küçükköy, Merkez and Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa; the plan may include narrow staircases, dismantling and, where needed, an exterior lift. A 2+1 has two bedrooms and a living room; a 3+1 has three bedrooms and a living room.
- Single-person homes (1+1, studios): smaller flats around M7 stations; fewer belongings, a smaller vehicle and a two-person team. A 1+1 means one bedroom and a living room.
- Offices and shops: around the square, on Bağlarbaşı's commercial street and in the market; loading may need to start early.
- Workshops and small manufacturers: the District Governorate notes contract manufacturing and building-material suppliers in the area; shelving and machinery may need to be moved outside business hours.
- Moves between İstanbul's two sides: in either direction between the Asian side and Gaziosmanpaşa; the lorry crosses via Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.

The District Governorate is at the Government House, No. 10–12 Çukurçeşme Avenue, Merkez neighbourhood; its switchboard is (0212) 418 13 38 (source: Gaziosmanpaşa District Governorate contact, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality's main website was unavailable from outside Türkiye on the research date. The only page we could access was the e-Municipality application, which has sign-in, registration and mobile-app links but no service-building address or telephone number (source: e-Municipality, accessed 30.09.2026). We will add the switchboard, requests and complaints channel, and Municipal Police, Cleaning Affairs and Urban Renewal Directorate details after checking them again from within Türkiye and publishing verified information.
Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: for the same reason, we could not verify whether a published rule or fee exists for temporarily using the road with a moving lorry or mobile lift (accessed 30.09.2026). We choose where the lorry can stop during the site visit and, if needed, ask the Municipal Police in advance.
Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: for the same reason, we could not verify waste collection days, rubble disposal or a collection service for old furniture. We collect the boxes and packing materials left after the move.
Public transport
The İBB station layer shows six stops from two lines within the district boundary: M7's Karadeniz Mahallesi station is in Karadeniz, Kazım Karabekir station is in Mevlana and Yenimahalle station is in Karayolları. On T4, Bosna Çukurçeşme, Sağmalcılar–Pancar Motor and Uluyol–Bereç are within the district; Sağmalcılar–Pancar Motor is in the Merkez polygon. Station names do not always match neighbourhood names, so we also give the neighbourhood when providing an address. Metro İstanbul describes M7 as the European side's first driverless metro. It runs from 06.00 to 00.00; all stations except Kağıthane and Alibeyköy are underground. T4 is a high-floor surface tram, runs during the same hours and connects with Metrobus at Şehitlik and Topkapı. The M7 line page shows the interchange between M7 and T4 at Karadeniz Mahallesi, while the T4 page shows it at Kiptaş–Venezia (sources: Metro İstanbul M7, T4, accessed 30.09.2026). There is no Metrobus stop, Marmaray station or ferry pier inside the district. For moving day, the surface T4 means a lorry cannot wait on a tramway street, so we plan loading from a side road; with M7 underground, we account for pedestrian and junction traffic around stations.
