Data sources and attributions
The maps, boundaries and district facts on this site rest on the work of open data providers. This page states who we got each dataset from, under which licence, and how old the data is.
How we use them
- Boundaries and map base: province, district and neighbourhood boundaries come from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). An attribution line is always shown on the map.
- Satellite imagery: when "Satellite view" is switched on, imagery is served live by Esri's World Imagery service; we do not store any tiles.
- District facts: muhtarlık (neighbourhood office) addresses, rail stations and taxi stands come from the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) open data portal. No field containing personal data is carried over to this site.
- Municipality information: we never copy text from district municipality websites; we summarise the parts relevant to someone moving, in our own words, and link to the source.
- Population and migration: TÜİK figures are cited with the year and table name whenever used.
Each district page also lists the sources used on that page. When a dataset is old, we say so next to its date rather than hiding it.

If you spot an error
If a boundary, address or station looks wrong, write to us. We check the source and, where appropriate, pass the correction on to the open data provider. Errors in OpenStreetMap can also be fixed directly at openstreetmap.org.
