Removals with an exterior lift

Instead of using the stairwell, belongings are moved through a balcony or window on an exterior lift. It can make moves easier in high-rise buildings and those with narrow stairs.

With an exterior lift, belongings are moved outside the building rather than through its interior: a platform attached to the vehicle reaches the balcony or window, and items are brought down directly from there. The building lift does not need to be occupied, and large items do not have to be turned around on the stairs. We organise the exterior lift and its set-up.

When an exterior lift may be needed

  • There is no building lift, or a sofa, wardrobe or fridge will not fit in it
  • The stairwell is narrow or has tight turns, creating a risk that large items may get stuck
  • There are many items on a high floor and you would like to reduce the time needed for the move
  • Building management does not want the building lift used during the move

Is your building suitable?

An exterior lift is set up in front of the building, so it is not suitable for every address. We check the following in advance:

  • Whether there is enough clear space for the vehicle and lift arm; if the street is narrow or sloping, whether parking is possible
  • The width of the balcony or window through which the items will pass
  • Obstacles such as electricity and telephone lines, tree branches and signs
  • The weather: set-up may not be safe in strong winds or rain, and the moving time may need to change

Sending a few WhatsApp photos showing the front of the building and the balcony makes an initial assessment easier.

Permissions

Setting up the lift temporarily blocks part of the pavement or road. You need approval from the apartment or residential complex management, and a municipal permit may also be required in some cases. Letting neighbours know the day before and asking them not to park in front of the building can make the morning easier.

On moving day

We set up the lift, wrap the items indoors in blankets and stretch film, transfer them to the platform from the balcony, secure them and load them directly into the vehicle below. Boxes and smaller items can also be carried down the stairs at the same time. If needed, we can set up a lift at the new address as well.

What affects the price

The price of an exterior-lift move depends on the type and size of the home or office, the floors and lift arrangements at both addresses, whether an exterior lift is needed at one or both addresses, the distance, any additional services such as packing, dismantling and assembly, and the moving date.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the lift at just one address?

Yes. In many moves, the exterior lift is set up only at the address with a high floor or narrow stairwell; at the other address, items are moved using the building lift or stairs.

What if I do not have a balcony?

Items may also be brought through a window that is wide enough. Send us the window measurements and a photo so we can assess whether it is suitable.

Where to next?

Tell us where from, where to and when. A few photos are usually enough for a quote.
