Bağcılar removals

In Bağcılar, the challenge is not the gradient but finding space: more than 707,000 people and over 23,000 mapped buildings within 22 km², with no mapped car park in eight neighbourhoods. One-way streets in Kemalpaşa and Mahmutbey, gated-site entrances in Güneşli and İstoç opening hours shape the day.

We handle Bağcılar removals across the 22 km² between the TEM (O-2) and D-100 roads. The Municipality describes the terrain as a flat or gently rolling plateau, at an average elevation of 50–70 metres. The district had a population of 707,635 in 2025, and around one fifth were students (sources: Our Geographic Location, The Social Structure of Our District, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate lists 22 neighbourhoods, 103 avenues and 2,685 streets; the district was formed in 1992 from the areas of Kirazlı, Güneşli and Mahmutbey. Its road network is close to 556 km, and official addresses mostly use numbered streets (sources: Our Muhtarlık Offices, History, Transport, accessed 30.09.2026).

From Sancaktepe to Bağcılar, the car route is approximately 47–50 km and takes 34–37 minutes in free-flowing traffic: 46.7 km to İstoç, 47.8 km to Üçyüzlü and 49.8 km to the district centre (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). Cars cross the Bosphorus using either the 15 July Martyrs or Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. Lorries must use Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which makes the journey longer; we do not give a separate distance or time for lorries.

Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry

According to the General Directorate of Highways, lorries cannot use the 15 July Martyrs or Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges; Yavuz Sultan Selim is the only Bosphorus bridge open to all vehicle classes. The Eurasia Tunnel tariff does not list lorries (sources: Highways restrictions and prohibitions, Eurasia Tunnel tariffs, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate says the TEM passes through the district; İSTOÇ has 2 km of frontage on the TEM, and Oto Center is at the TEM–Otogar road junction (sources: Transport, Economy, accessed 30.09.2026). Our lorry comes south from the north via the TEM. We choose the exit according to the address and loading time, and select a crossing for a smaller vehicle according to its class.

Bağcılar map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations

The map brings together boundaries for all 22 neighbourhoods, 22 muhtarlık offices (local headmen's offices where residence can be registered), the district sections of the M1B, M3, M7 and T1 lines, stations the İBB dataset marks as under construction, and taxi ranks. In satellite view, the larger plots around Mahmutbey's retail and warehouse areas in the north stand out against the denser street pattern of İnönü and Yıldıztepe in the south.

Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood

Categories are relative to Bağcılar's own 22 neighbourhoods. The mapped polygons total 22.2 km², consistent with the Municipality's figure of 22 km²; they contain 23,431 buildings. Storey data is complete only for Göztepe, where it covers 98% of buildings, and partial for Yenigün. For the other 20 neighbourhoods, the map has little or no storey data, so we assess building height during the site visit rather than infer it. Read the gradient figures with care too: the Municipality describes a flat plateau, while the elevation model can overstate gradients in densely built streets because it also measures roof surfaces. We use the figures to compare neighbourhoods, not as a promise or warning about a particular ramp.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).

In practical terms:

  • Higher shares of narrow or one-way streets — Kemalpaşa, Mahmutbey, 15 Temmuz, Bağlar, Sancaktepe, 100. Yıl and Merkez: the share is 9–30%, compared with no more than 6% in the other 15 neighbourhoods. Kemalpaşa has 366 buildings and one car park across 0.57 km². Mahmutbey is the largest neighbourhood at 4.7 km², with 44.6 km of local streets, 1,480 buildings and five car parks. 15 Temmuz has 2,090 buildings and 14 car parks; 100. Yıl has the district's highest building count (2,243) and one car park. Sancaktepe has 678 buildings and no mapped car park; Merkez has 651 buildings and eight car parks, as well as the T1 Bağcılar and M1B Üçyüzlü stations. We confirm which end of the street the lorry can enter from before the address visit.
  • Nine neighbourhoods accessible from both directions — Fevzi Çakmak, Kâzım Karabekir, Yenigün, Çınar, Demirkapı, Fatih, İnönü, Yavuz Selim and Yıldıztepe: the share of narrow or one-way streets is 0–1%. Demirkapı has 1,472 buildings and 27.9 km of local streets in 1.08 km²; Yıldıztepe has 1,332 buildings, Çınar 1,061, Fatih 918 and İnönü 637, with no mapped car parks in those five. Yenigün is the smallest neighbourhood at 0.28 km², with 700 buildings. Kâzım Karabekir has 594 buildings and one car park; Yavuz Selim has 659 buildings, two car parks and Bağcılar Meydan station. Parked vehicles can narrow the route, so we choose the lorry's position in advance.
  • Different parking and station patterns in the other neighbourhoods — Barbaros, Göztepe, Güneşli, Hürriyet, Kirazlı and Yenimahalle: the share of narrow or one-way streets is 2–6%. Barbaros has 285 buildings and no mapped car park. Göztepe has 1,963 buildings, storey data for 98% of them (an average of 3.9 storeys), 21 car parks and the M3–M7 Mahmutbey station. Güneşli covers 1.23 km², with 1,649 buildings, 25 km of local streets and five car parks; Hürriyet has 878 buildings and no mapped car park. Kirazlı has 1,165 buildings, one car park and the M1B–M3 interchange; Yenimahalle has 814 buildings, four car parks and an M3 station. We plan the loading point against the building entrance and nearby parking and stations.

İstoç, printing works and urban-renewal areas

The District Governorate says İSTOÇ was founded in 1979 as a cooperative of Eminönü wholesalers. It covers 1,100,000 m² in Mahmutbey, with 2 km of frontage on the TEM and around 35 trade groups. Oto Center has 662 businesses, the Printers and Packers Site has 275 members, and Güneşli has industrial premises and newspaper printing works (source: Economy, accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipality also lists MİA and MASSİT (source: The Social Structure of Our District, accessed 30.09.2026). For shop and warehouse moves, we confirm the entrance, opening hours and goods lift in advance, including the İSTOÇ entrance arrangements described by residents.

İBB's planning note covers buildings at risk across all 22 neighbourhoods; the amendment was added to plans dating from 1987 and 2008. A 10.7-hectare plan for the area around Molla Gürani Park in İnönü was approved on 16.03.2023. Yıldıztepe and İnönü are included in an area prioritised for disaster planning, and a survey of 235 people was conducted in Yıldıztepe in 2021 (sources: Planning note, Molla Gürani, Yıldıztepe survey, accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipality has no separate urban-renewal directorate; the subject sits with its Disaster Affairs and Planning and Projects units, and an initial application form is available through e-municipality (sources: Directorates, Service guide, accessed 30.09.2026). We can store belongings during a building's clearance and move them to the new flat when it is ready.

What residents say

Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.

  • Merkez

Residents describe a district woven from side streets, with constant comings and goings, children playing, and motorbike and car traffic. Parking is difficult and even walking can feel tiring. Visitors say the streets look alike and can be hard to navigate.

The moves we see most in Bağcılar

  • Family homes (2+1, 3+1): in 100. Yıl, Demirkapı, 15 Temmuz and Yıldıztepe, we plan packing, dismantling and where the lorry can stop. In Turkish home listings, 2+1 means two bedrooms plus a living room; 3+1 means three bedrooms plus a living room.
  • Single-person and student homes (1+1, studios): around the Kirazlı and Mahmutbey stations, we plan for a smaller vehicle and a two-person team. 1+1 means one bedroom plus a living room.
  • Shops, warehouses, workshops and offices: shelving, machinery and archive moves around İSTOÇ, Oto Center, the Printers' Site and Güneşli.
  • Urban-renewal clearances and storage: in Yıldıztepe, İnönü and Mahmutbey, where residents report waiting for renewal, we can plan the move and storage together.
  • Deliveries within gated sites: for the Güneşli and Mahmutbey sites residents describe, we agree entry times, goods-lift use and vehicle access with site management in advance.
  • Moves between the two sides of the city: between Bağcılar and the Asian side, the lorry's route via Yavuz Sultan Selim and the choice of TEM exit are among the first decisions.

Public transport

Bağcılar is served by four rail lines. The Üçyüzlü, Bağcılar Meydan and Kirazlı-Bağcılar stations on the M1B Yenikapı–Kirazlı metro are in the district. The Otogar–Kirazlı extension opened in 2013; the line runs from 06.00 to 24.00, with trains every four minutes at peak times. Bağcılar Meydan connects to T1, and Kirazlı to M3. All 20 stations on the M3 Bakırköy Sahil–Kayaşehir Merkez line are underground. Yıldıztepe, Molla Gürani, Kirazlı-Bağcılar, Yenimahalle, Mahmutbey and İstoç serve the district corridor; Yıldıztepe opened on 08.10.2025. At peak times trains run every seven minutes, with a connection to M7 at Mahmutbey. The Göztepe Mahallesi and Mahmutbey stations on the driverless M7 Yıldız–Mahmutbey line are in the district; the Mecidiyeköy–Mahmutbey section opened in 2020, with trains every four minutes at peak times. The T1 Kabataş–Bağcılar tram runs through Yavuzselim and Güneştepe before terminating at Bağcılar. Low-floor trams and ramped stops serve the line from 06.00 to 24.00, with a train every two minutes at peak times (sources: Metro İstanbul M1B, M3, M7, T1, accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipality's route list says the H-1 bus to İstanbul Airport departs from Mahmutbey Metro (source: Transport routes, accessed 30.09.2026). Metro İstanbul's pages do not list a Marmaray or Metrobüs connection at Bağcılar stations.

Metro İstanbul's pages do not assign stations to neighbourhoods. The list below follows the İBB station layer, which places Mahmutbey station in Göztepe Mahallesi and Göztepe Mahallesi station in Fatih Mahallesi; the map is the clearest way to distinguish station names from neighbourhood names. The June 2025 layer still marks Yıldıztepe and Molla Gürani as under construction, while Metro İstanbul's current M3 page lists both on the line. In the same layer, M9's 15 Temmuz and Mimar Sinan stations, the M1B extension's Barbaros and Mimar Sinan stations, and the M7 extension's Bölge Parkı station are marked as under construction. For a move, station exits and bus interchanges around Kirazlı, Bağcılar Meydan and Mahmutbey can make pavements busy, so we may use a side street for loading.
