Küçükçekmece removals

A move in Küçükçekmece can mean three different settings: single-gate sites and a queue for the goods lift in Atakent, finding room for a lorry on a one-vehicle-wide street in Sefaköy, or choosing a loading point outside a high-rise between the lake and the sea. For our lorry coming from İstanbul's Asian side, the day starts at Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.

We handle Küçükçekmece removals on İstanbul's European side, along the shores of the lake and the Sea of Marmara. The Municipality's location page says the district covers 37.75 km². D-100 and the TEM connection road lie to its east, Küçükçekmece Lake to the west, the Sea of Marmara to the south and the TEM to the north; the terrain is described as close to sea level and gently rolling. The District Governorate's local authorities data and the Municipality's muhtarlık list give the same 21 neighbourhoods. The 2025 ADNKS population was 785,270. The neighbouring districts are Avcılar, Başakşehir, Bağcılar, Bahçelievler and Bakırköy (sources: Küçükçekmece District Governorate, Local Authorities, Küçükçekmece Municipality, Location, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate gives the lake's approximate dimensions as 10 km long, 6 km wide and 16 km² in area. The historic Mimar Sinan Bridge over it dates from 1560 and is 227 metres long (sources: Küçükçekmece Lake and Küçükçekmece Bridge, accessed 30.09.2026).

From our base in Sancaktepe to Küçükçekmece, the car route is approximately 51–57 km: Bahariye is the nearest end at 50.8 km, the centre of the neighbourhood polygons is 53.3 km away, and Halkalı is 57.5 km away. In free-flowing traffic, the same car profile gives a journey of 35–45 minutes. An early morning departure may be close to this range; D-100 and TEM traffic changes the estimate during the day (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). This route was calculated for a car crossing the Bosphorus by either the 15 July Martyrs or Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. Our lorry must use Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, so the journey is longer; we do not give a separate lorry distance or time.

Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry

For any lorry travelling between Küçükçekmece and İstanbul's Asian side, the route is the first thing to plan. The General Directorate of Highways lists the 15 July Martyrs and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges as closed to lorries; Yavuz Sultan Selim is the Bosphorus crossing open to all vehicle classes. The Eurasia Tunnel tariff lists cars, minibuses and motorcycles, but no lorry class (sources: Highways restrictions and prohibitions, Eurasia Tunnel tariffs, accessed 30.09.2026). In practice, the lorry crosses from the north via Yavuz Sultan Selim. As the Municipality describes the TEM as the district's northern boundary, we usually plan to enter from that direction. For smaller moves using a smaller vehicle, the crossing depends on the vehicle class; we confirm this during the site visit.

Küçükçekmece map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations

The map shows neighbourhood boundaries, 21 muhtarlık offices (local headmen's offices where residence can be registered), Marmaray and M9 stations, metro stations under construction and taxi ranks. It shows 20 boundaries, while the official list has 21 neighbourhoods: Fatih's boundary is not drawn separately in OSM, so addresses there appear within neighbouring polygons. Satellite view makes the difference between Atakent's blocks and car parks and the dense plots around Sefaköy and the lakeshore easy to see.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).

On the ground, the figures mean:

  • Higher shares of narrow or one-way streets — Sultan Murat, Gültepe, Kemalpaşa, Cennet, Kartaltepe, Tevfikbey and Yeni Mahalle: the share is 22–52%, with Sultan Murat highest at 52%. Gradients in Sultan Murat, Gültepe and Yeni Mahalle are 3.3–4.4%; Kemalpaşa and Cennet are moderate, while Kartaltepe and Tevfikbey are steep. Storey data is missing or covers fewer than 2% of buildings in these neighbourhoods; mapped car parks number no more than three in all except Tevfikbey. We choose the lorry's stopping point and carrying distance street by street.
  • Steeper neighbourhoods with fewer narrow streets — Cumhuriyet, Mehmet Akif, İnönü, Yarımburgaz, Halkalı Merkez and Kanarya: average gradients are 6.3–6.6%, and 40–47% of streets are steep. Kanarya has 2,361 buildings and no mapped car park; Cumhuriyet has no storey data and one car park. Halkalı Merkez covers 4.4 km², with 59.5 km of local streets and 2,310 buildings; residents also describe its hills. During the site visit, we check whether an exterior lift can be set up on a slope and where the lorry can wait.
  • Large plots and station access — Atakent and İstasyon: Atakent is the largest neighbourhood at 8.5 km², with 70 km of local streets, 229 mapped car parks and storey data for 13% of buildings, which average 11.8 storeys. İstasyon has 60 car parks and Halkalı Marmaray station. We confirm the site management's rules for hours, goods lifts and vehicle access before moving day.
  • Other neighbourhoods — Atatürk, Beşyol, Fevzi Çakmak, Söğütlü Çeşme and Yeşilova: average gradients are 3.5–5.7%, and the share of narrow or one-way streets is 0–17%. Beşyol covers 0.3 km², with 2.8 km of local streets and 163 buildings. In Söğütlü Çeşme, storey data covers half the buildings, which average 3.7 storeys; there are 13 mapped car parks. Fevzi Çakmak is flatter, with a 3.7% gradient, while Yeşilova has no mapped car park. We check kerbside parking and the approach road in advance.

Urban renewal: Kanarya and planned areas

The Municipality's Urban Transformation Directorate approves reports identifying buildings at risk and handles evacuation, demolition permits and rent-support applications. The Kanarya Urban Renewal Project has been under way since 2021 under a protocol between İBB, the Municipality and KİPTAŞ. It covers 713 rights holders and is an in-place renewal project; most buildings are recorded as predating the 1999 earthquake. The project office is at No. 40–42, Papağan Caddesi, Kanarya Mahallesi, and is open on weekdays from 09.00 to 17.30 (sources: Urban Transformation Directorate, Kanarya Urban Renewal Project, accessed 30.09.2026). İBB's planning-note amendment concerns approved plans in 18 neighbourhoods, excluding Atakent, Fatih and Yarımburgaz. It lists plans for Sefaköy, Halkalı, Merkez, Göl Civarı and the area around Halkalı Caddesi separately (source: İBB Urban Transformation, Küçükçekmece planning note, accessed 30.09.2026). We can pack and store belongings from a building at risk, then move them into the new building once it is ready.

What residents say

Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.

  • Cennet, Cumhuriyet, Kanarya

Recent posts describe cars stopping with their hazard lights on to enter shops on main roads, drivers going the wrong way down one-way streets, and impatient honking around parked cars. In older neighbourhoods, writers say plots have been combined and nine- or ten-storey blocks built in place of two-storey homes, while roads and infrastructure have stayed much the same.

  • Atakent, Halkalı Merkez, Cennet, Tevfikbey, Cumhuriyet, Kanarya

Posts describe Halkalı and Atakent as quieter areas dominated by residential sites, while Cennet and Sefaköy are busier; they mention Marmaray, Metrobüs, the E-5, TEM and the coastal road. Other writers discuss lakeside development, roadworks, crowded squares, and demolition and renewal around Kanarya and Cumhuriyet.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: küçükçekmece (2024-12 – 2026-01)

  • Cumhuriyet, Cennet

Writers say 20-storey buildings have been allowed near the lake in Fatih and Cumhuriyet, with 10–15-storey blocks without parking on already narrow streets; they also describe density increasing in Cennet as plots are combined.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: küçükçekmece (2023-11 – 2024-03)

  • Halkalı Merkez, Atakent

Writers describe hills throughout the area, a very steep ramp from Halkalı Marmaray station into the neighbourhood, and buildings that look much alike. They add that frequent pedestrian crossings bring traffic on the main road to a repeated halt.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: halkalı (2021-12 – 2023-11)

  • Tevfikbey, Fevzi Çakmak, Kemalpaşa

Writers describe stop-start traffic at signals on the approach from the E-5, wrong-way turns into one-way streets and double parking that leaves room for only one vehicle. A bus or refuse lorry can block the road; short distances take minutes, and finding a parking space takes time.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: sefaköy (2024-02 – 2024-03)

  • Tevfikbey, Fevzi Çakmak

Residents describe older homes they consider vulnerable to earthquakes, a bus journey of nearly an hour for a trip that takes only a few minutes by car, and a long walk to Halkalı. They associate the area with older building stock and heavy daytime traffic.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: sefaköy (2023-04 – 2023-07)

  • Atakent

Writers say new residential sites have brought more people, parents leave cars in the middle of the road at school times, and metro construction has narrowed the main avenue for years. One writer, referring to İBB's district earthquake report, says the neighbourhood's northern section is in relatively good condition.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: atakent (2023-10 – 2024-12)

  • Atakent

Writers worry that Atakent in Halkalı is far from business centres and difficult to leave by car in the morning. They say mornings become chaotic when schools reopen, drivers stop in the middle of the road, and parking disputes arise around new high-rise blocks.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: atakent (2025-07 – 2026-09)

  • Kanarya

Writers note that almost all the avenue and street names are birds, including Parrot, Stork, Falaman and Skylark. They say the old Kanarya railway station was removed during Marmaray construction, leaving the neighbourhood without a station.

a few comments · ekşi sözlük: kanarya mahallesi (2024-12)

  • Cumhuriyet, Cennet

Writers say cars parked on pavements in the centre force pedestrians to walk in the road. They also report that Fatih car park, next to the market and used by visitors to the square, became a paid car park.

The moves we see most in Küçükçekmece

  • Moves into sites and newly completed developments: housing phases in Atakent and Halkalı Merkez, plus high-rise blocks by the lake. At sites residents describe as having a single entrance, we confirm lorry access and the distance from the block during the site visit.
  • Urban-renewal clearances and storage: belongings may need to stay in storage for months while buildings are renewed in Kanarya, Cennet, Cumhuriyet and Sefaköy; we can plan the move and storage together.
  • Family homes (2+1, 3+1): we include dismantling, packing and a lorry position for narrow streets in the plan. In Turkish home listings, 2+1 means two bedrooms plus a living room; 3+1 means three bedrooms plus a living room.
  • Single-person homes (1+1, studios): around Marmaray and Metrobüs, where a smaller vehicle and a two-person team may suit a smaller load. 1+1 means one bedroom plus a living room.
  • Offices, shops and workshops: street-front businesses in Sefaköy and companies near İkitelli may need moves outside business hours.
  • Addresses near hospitals: around Halkalı Merkez and Sefaköy hospitals, we check parking and ambulance access in advance and choose the loading time accordingly.

The Municipality's service building is at No. 10, Halkalı Turgut Özal Bulvarı, Halkalı Merkez Mahallesi. Its contact centre is 444 4 360, also used for WhatsApp; residents can also use the Cep Vatandaş app and track requests and complaints online. The Municipal Police Directorate is on floors B-1 and B-2 of the service building; its complaints line is 411 07 64–68 (sources: Contact us, Municipal Police Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate is at No. 19, Süvari Caddesi, Kartaltepe Mahallesi (source: Küçükçekmece District Governorate, Contact, accessed 30.09.2026).

Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: we could not find a published rule or fee on the Municipality's website for a moving vehicle or mobile lift temporarily using the road (accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipal Police organisation includes a Traffic Team Office, but its page gives no hours or application requirements. On narrow streets, the best option is to ask the Municipality on 444 4 360 before moving day. Market days and street addresses are published by neighbourhood: Yalı Caddesi in Fatih is closed to traffic for the Friday market, while Beşir Kemal Caddesi in Tevfikbey hosts markets on Wednesdays and Fridays. If your address is on a market street, we choose the moving day accordingly (source: Market days and addresses, accessed 30.09.2026).

Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: the Cleaning Affairs Directorate says household waste is collected using a two-stream system and taken to İBB transfer stations. The Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate says recyclable waste, including electrical and electronic items, is collected at source by licensed companies. These pages do not list neighbourhood collection days, a rubble-removal application or an old-furniture collection service; the environmental subsite could not be reached on the research date (sources: Cleaning Affairs Directorate, Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). We collect boxes and packing materials on moving day; we can discuss old furniture during the site visit.

Public transport

The Halkalı–Gebze Marmaray line crosses the district. Halkalı, the western end of the line, is in İstasyon Mahallesi; Küçükçekmece station is in Cennet, and Mustafa Kemal station is in Kanarya. Bahariye station on the M9 Ataköy–Olimpiyat line is in Mehmet Akif Mahallesi. Metro İstanbul describes the M9 as a north–south line connecting the Halkalı and İkitelli corridors with M1A, Marmaray and Metrobüs. It runs from 06.00 to 24.00, with connections to Marmaray at Ataköy and Metrobüs at Yenibosna. According to İETT's Metrobüs page, the line runs 24 hours a day and connects with Marmaray at Küçükçekmece station (sources: Metro İstanbul M9, İETT Metrobüs lines, accessed 30.09.2026). İBB's station layer still marks Halkalı Caddesi and Atatürk Mahallesi M9 stations as under construction, although Metro İstanbul says this section opened in 2024. The same layer marks the M1B Halkalı extension (Bezirganbahçe, Fatih, Halkalı-Üniversite, Mehmet Akif Ersoy and Yenidoğan), M7's Atakent stations (Hastane, Tema Park and Toplu Konut) and the M11 terminus at Halkalı as under construction. Road restrictions around worksites can affect a move. We also factor in the stop-start traffic at the E-5 entrance and busy station squares in the morning, as residents describe them.
