Şişli removals
In Şişli, moving day depends on whether the address is on the ridge or the slope: Halaskargazi and Büyükdere are level and busy, while streets leading down to Kurtuluş and Kuştepe are narrow and steep. Which bridge the lorry can use is also one of the first things we plan.
For Şişli removals, we head to the northern extension of the Beyoğlu plateau, west of the Bosphorus; the district has no coastline. According to the District Governorate's geographic description, the Taksim–Şişli–Mecidiyeköy ridge levels out, while the Dolapdere–Kurtuluş slopes are steep. Mecidiyeköy is 100–120 metres above sea level, and Duatepe and Esentepe are among the district's highest points (source: Şişli District Governorate, Geographic layout, accessed 30.09.2026). The Governorate says Şişli borders Sarıyer to the north, Beyoğlu to the south, Beşiktaş to the east and Kağıthane to the west. İBB's Mahmut Şevket Paşa page refers to 25 neighbourhoods, and the map has 25 boundaries. Nişantaşı, Osmanbey, Kurtuluş, Bomonti and Pangaltı are district-area names; Maslak and Ayazağa do not appear in the current list of 25 neighbourhoods. Adding up the mapped neighbourhood boundaries gives an area of about 10.6 km², calculated from OpenStreetMap boundaries.
The road journey from our Sancaktepe base to Şişli is about 29–31 km by car: central Şişli is closer to 29 km, while the Gayrettepe end is nearer 31 km. In free-flowing traffic, the car-profile journey takes 25–30 minutes; an early morning departure may be close to that estimate (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). OSRM's car route crosses either the 15 July Martyrs Bridge or the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. Our lorry cannot use those bridges, so it takes the longer route via Yavuz Sultan Selim. We do not give a separate lorry distance or time; we plan the day's schedule during the site visit.
Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry
According to the General Directorate of Highways restrictions table, 15 July Martyrs Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge are closed to lorries, while Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is open to all vehicle classes. The Eurasia Tunnel tariff lists cars, minibuses and motorcycles only; there is no lorry tariff (sources: KGM restrictions and prohibitions and Eurasia Tunnel tolls, accessed 30.09.2026). A loaded lorry from the Asian side therefore crosses to the north and approaches the district from Sarıyer or Kağıthane. İBB's Mahmut Şevket Paşa page also mentions Şişli's proximity to bridge access roads, but it does not distinguish vehicle classes; the KGM bridge rule applies to lorries (source: İBB, participatory urban renewal in Mahmut Şevket Paşa, Şişli, accessed 30.09.2026). We found no restriction on lorry routes within the district on the Governorate or İBB websites. For small moves using a smaller vehicle, the available crossing depends on its class; we confirm that by phone.
Şişli map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations
The map shows the boundaries of all 25 neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, M2 and M7 stations, the Maçka–Taşkışla cable car that İBB's layer places in Harbiye, and taxi ranks. Satellite view shows the contrast between the dense streets of Kurtuluş–Feriköy and the office towers and car parks of Esentepe.
Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood
The categories compare Şişli's neighbourhoods with one another. Only Halaskargazi and Esentepe have an average gradient below 6%. Building heights are missing from the map in most neighbourhoods, so we confirm storeys and lift access during the site visit.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).
Here is how the figures translate into a moving-day plan:
- The main ridge — Halaskargazi, Merkez, Meşrutiyet and Esentepe: average gradients are 5.9–6%, and 35–42% of streets are steep, making this the district's most level belt. However, 33–64% of streets are one-way or narrow. Merkez (1.1 km²) and Esentepe (1.5 km²) are the two largest neighbourhoods; Esentepe has 20 mapped car parks, by far the most in the district. Halaskargazi is the smallest neighbourhood at 0.1 km², and Meşrutiyet has the most mapped buildings at 765. Around Osmanbey and Şişli metro stations, we do not stop the lorry on the main road; we choose a side street in advance. In Esentepe's offices, the issue is not the slope but booking the goods lift and working around business hours.
- The narrow-street belt around Kurtuluş, Feriköy, Bomonti and Okmeydanı — Bozkurt, Duatepe, Cumhuriyet, Halil Rıfat Paşa, Feriköy and Ergenekon: 45–95% of streets are one-way or narrow, reaching 95% in Duatepe and 92% in Bozkurt, the district's highest shares. Gradients are moderate at 6.1–7.3%, with 34–45% steep streets. Bozkurt has 665 buildings in 0.18 km²; mapped buildings average four to five storeys in Duatepe and about five in Feriköy. Feriköy and Ergenekon have no mapped car parks. A large lorry cannot get in here, so we plan a smaller vehicle or a transfer and finish loading before morning traffic starts.
- Nişantaşı and Harbiye — Teşvikiye and Harbiye: 54% of Teşvikiye's streets are one-way or narrow; its average gradient is 9.8%, with 54% of streets steep. In Harbiye, 25% of streets are narrow, the average gradient is 7% and 39% are steep. Harbiye covers 0.77 km² but has only 1.4 km of local streets; the rest is main road. It has 11 mapped car parks, compared with one in Teşvikiye. Floor data is sparse in both. Residents describe long-established apartment blocks, where narrow stairs and the possibility of no lift need checking. The lorry stops briefly on a side street, not on Vali Konağı or Teşvikiye Avenue.
- The slopes around Mecidiyeköy — Mecidiyeköy, Fulya, Gülbahar, Kuştepe and İzzetpaşa: average gradients are 8.4–11%, with 50–62% of streets steep and 21–55% one-way or narrow. Gülbahar has the district's longest local street network at 12.2 km. Fulya has 575 buildings, with mapped heights averaging six to seven storeys. Kuştepe has no mapped car park; only 23 buildings are recorded in İzzetpaşa. Residents say navigation apps use the side streets as shortcuts; we approach from above, not from the E-5, and bring the lorry to the top of the slope.
- The district's three steepest neighbourhoods — Eskişehir, İnönü and 19 Mayıs: average gradients are 10.2–11.5%, and 60–69% of streets are steep; one-way or narrow streets account for 24–57%. Eskişehir has 742 buildings and İnönü 588, but floor data is sparse. Eskişehir has no mapped car park; 19 Mayıs has six. This is the slope descending from Kurtuluş to Dolapdere, where the carrying distance and team size may need to increase during the site visit.
- The western valley — Paşa, Mahmut Şevket Paşa, Halide Edip Adıvar, Yayla and Kaptanpaşa: average gradients are 6.3–9.6%, with 46–59% steep streets. One-way or narrow streets account for 0% in Kaptanpaşa, 3% in Mahmut Şevket Paşa and 5% in Yayla, compared with 45% in Paşa and 56% in Halide Edip Adıvar. Mapped buildings average five storeys in Paşa and four in Yayla. No floor data is available in Mahmut Şevket Paşa or Halide Edip Adıvar, and neither has a mapped car park. On the wider roads, the lorry can reach the door; around renewal sites, it may have to share space with construction vehicles.
What residents say
Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.
- Merkez, Cumhuriyet, Feriköy
Someone who has lived in the district for 19 years sums it up as traffic, crowds and parking problems. Others say vacated buildings in Merkez and Bomonti can stand for a long time awaiting demolition, and pavements around Abide-i Hürriyet and Halaskargazi are obstructed. They describe someone moving almost every other day in the side neighbourhoods, with the removals vehicle blocking a narrow street.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: şişli (2025-01 – 2026-09)
- Mecidiyeköy
Several writers say people with cars should avoid the area, parking is almost impossible and public transport is the only sensible option. They say service vehicles parked on pavements make already narrow streets tighter and block pedestrians, while the metro and Metrobus interchange adds to the crowds.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: mecidiyeköy (2025-01 – 2026-05)
- Mecidiyeköy, Fulya
A consistent set of older posts says the evening drive from outside Şişli Mosque to the Profilo area can take hours. Service vehicles and taxis waiting at the roadside, together with crowds at the stop outside Cevahir, are said to block the junction. Writers say side streets do not help because everyone uses them too, and suggest heading down through Fulya to Beşiktaş or walking from Harbiye.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: mecidiyeköy trafiği (2014-02 – 2016-07)
- Mecidiyeköy
Some say they give up trying to board because vehicles arrive full during the morning and evening peaks. Others write that the moving walkway and stairs down to the metro remained out of order for months, and that even leaving the stop could take several minutes.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: mecidiyeköy metrobüs durağı (2022-01 – 2025-04)
- Esentepe, Mecidiyeköy
The office corridor running from Şişli to 4. Levent is described as congested even during holidays and school breaks. Writers say a few hundred metres can take more than an hour even when schools are closed, and recommend adding half an hour to navigation estimates. They blame fewer lanes outside Levent's shopping centres and buses stopping in the road instead of pulling into the stop.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: büyükdere caddesi (2017-07 – 2026-03)
- Bozkurt, Feriköy, Eskişehir
Writers say the street connecting Pangaltı and Kurtuluş narrowed after about a year of pavement and infrastructure works: two buses can no longer pass side by side, and short-stay parking bays were squeezed in. They add that people now park outside those bays, although parking on the street used to be prohibited, and that motorbike couriers are numerous.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: kurtuluş caddesi (2022-10 – 2024-10)
- Teşvikiye, Harbiye, Meşrutiyet
People arriving by car say even reaching a car park is frustrating. They describe more cafés and bars around Topağacı Hill, Rumeli Avenue becoming Teşvikiye Avenue further along, and long-established older buildings on the side streets.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: nişantaşı (2023-08 – 2024-05)
- Fulya
Residents describe Fulya as a pleasant place to live despite its tiring hills, saying it is easy to go down to Beşiktaş but hard to climb back. They also say opening Fulya metro station on the Gayrettepe side has caused confusion about where the neighbourhood is.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: fulya (2023-01 – 2025-06)
- Feriköy
A student who lived there for five years describes narrow, uneven streets and counts the ten-minute walk to Osmanbey metro as a plus. They note the surviving gecekondu housing and the frequent noise of motorbikes passing through the streets.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: feriköy (2022-04 – 2023-10)
- Kuştepe
Writers say navigation apps send drivers through Kuştepe's side streets to avoid Mecidiyeköy and E-5 traffic, making the route difficult; the slopes are described, hyperbolically, as extremely steep. They add that visitors to Çağlayan Courthouse look for parking a few streets downhill.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: kuştepe (2023-08 – 2026-05)
- Gülbahar
Writers explain that the Gülbağ area falls within Gülbahar neighbourhood, although property deeds list Mecidiyeköy. Someone who lived there for a year and a half says the centre of Mecidiyeköy would be only a few minutes away on level ground, but the hills make it impractical to walk; motorbikes emerge from every street.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: gülbağ (2023-11 – 2026-06)
- Feriköy, Cumhuriyet
A resident lists the close-set buildings, narrow streets, heavy traffic and lack of green space in an ironic tone, adding that new apartment blocks are still being built on two back streets.

The moves we see most in Şişli
- Moves between the two sides of the city: between the Asian side and Şişli, the bridge restriction makes departure time and route the backbone of the plan.
- Offices and towers: around Büyükdere Avenue and the Esentepe–Mecidiyeköy axis, we may need an out-of-hours move, a goods-lift booking, and separate packing for archives and IT equipment.
- Single-person homes (1+1, one bedroom plus a living room, or a studio): student and recent-graduate moves in Feriköy, Bomonti and Kurtuluş; fewer belongings, but narrower streets.
- Family homes (2+1 or 3+1, two or three bedrooms plus a living room): we plan dismantling, packing and loading times for apartment buildings in Nişantaşı, Teşvikiye, Fulya and Esentepe.
- Moves from older apartment blocks: in the Nişantaşı and Kurtuluş buildings residents describe as long-established, we check for a lift and measure the stairs during the visit; an exterior lift may need a separate plan.
- Urban-renewal clearances and storage: while buildings are being renewed in Mahmut Şevket Paşa, Merkez and Bomonti, belongings may need to wait for months; we plan the move and storage together.

The District Governorate and District Population Directorate have been in the same building since November 2025: No. 133 Halaskargazi Avenue, Cumhuriyet neighbourhood, near Osmanbey metro. Residence declarations and proof-of-residence documents are handled there; the switchboard is 0212 232 50 50 (sources: New District Governorate service address, District Population Directorate and Contact, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality website could not be reached on the research date. We will add the switchboard and permit information once it is available.
Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: because we could not access the municipality's pages, we cannot report a rule for temporarily using the road with a removals vehicle or mobile lift. We found no such notice on the District Governorate website either (accessed 30.09.2026). Residents describe road closures on the one-way streets in Bomonti and neighbouring areas, so we bring the lorry into the street before 07.00 and, where possible, keep it waiting two streets away.
Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: for the same reason, we cannot provide sourced information about packaging-waste days, old-furniture collection or rubble rules; we will add it once the website is available. We take away the moving boxes and packing materials, and can plan for old furniture during the site visit.
Public transport
The M2 Yenikapı–Hacıosman line stops at Osmanbey and Şişli-Mecidiyeköy; it operates from 06.00 to 00.00 and connects with the M7 and Metrobus at Şişli-Mecidiyeköy (source: Metro İstanbul M2, accessed 30.09.2026). The driverless M7 also passes through Mecidiyeköy. İBB's layer places Fulya station on the Beşiktaş boundary; the Yıldız–Mecidiyeköy section opened in January 2023 (source: Metro İstanbul M7, accessed 30.09.2026). Metrobus connects with two rail lines at Mecidiyeköy; the nearest stop for Mahmut Şevket Paşa is Okmeydanı, 600 metres away (source: İBB Mahmut Şevket Paşa page, cited above). The district has no Marmaray station or coastline, and therefore no ferry pier. İBB's layer places Gayrettepe, Levent and 4. Levent in Esentepe, and the Maçka–Taşkışla cable car in Harbiye. We schedule loading early around the Mecidiyeköy interchange.

Urban renewal
İBB's Şişli plan-note amendment on buildings at risk covers plans for 24 neighbourhoods; Halaskargazi is not listed, and the page gives no reason. The amended plans include Şişli Centre and its surroundings, Dolapdere–Piyalepaşa Boulevard and its surroundings, and four specific blocks in Esentepe (source: İBB Urban Renewal, Şişli plan-note amendment, accessed 30.09.2026). The only participatory project area İBB lists for Şişli is Mahmut Şevket Paşa, at the district's western edge. The 30-hectare site is on the Beyoğlu and Kağıthane boundaries and neighbours Paşa and Halil Rıfat Paşa within Şişli; the neighbourhood's Property and Planning Advice Office is at No. 1 Kuruçay Street (source: İBB, Advice Office, accessed 30.09.2026). Residents write that vacated buildings in Merkez and Bomonti can remain standing for a long time before demolition. We pack and store belongings from a cleared home, then move them in one trip when the new building is ready.
Neighbouring districts
According to the District Governorate's geographic description, Şişli borders Sarıyer to the north, Beyoğlu to the south, Beşiktaş to the east and Kağıthane to the west. We plan around the slope, street conditions, floors, timing and team needed at both addresses. For the whole city, see our İstanbul removals page.
