Beşiktaş removals
In Beşiktaş, the plan starts with two questions: which bridge can the lorry use, and is the address on the Bosphorus slope or in the office district? Bebek and Ortaköy have steep streets; Levent has towers with goods lifts. They are in the same district, but they do not make the same moving day.
For Beşiktaş removals, we cross to the European side of the Bosphorus, along the shore between Dolmabahçe and Bebek and up to the ridges behind it. The municipality's neighbourhood table lists 23 neighbourhoods. The District Governorate describes two settlement axes: Beşiktaş–Ortaköy, Kuruçeşme–Arnavutköy and Bebek on the shore, with Levent and Etiler among the district's most populous areas inland. The municipality describes the building stock as mainly reinforced-concrete and masonry. The registered population at the end of 2021 was 178,938; daytime population is several times higher because of universities, workplaces and bridge access roads (sources: Beşiktaş District Governorate, Socio-cultural situation and Beşiktaş Municipality, History of Beşiktaş, accessed 30.09.2026). We could not find an official page giving the district's area; the total of the 23 neighbourhood boundaries on the map is about 18 km², calculated from OpenStreetMap boundaries.
From our Sancaktepe base to Beşiktaş is about 27–30 km by car; the Etiler end is a little closer and Beşiktaş centre farther away. In free-flowing traffic, this car-profile journey takes 20–25 minutes (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). That estimate follows a car route over either the 15 July Martyrs Bridge or the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. Our lorry must use the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, so its journey is longer. We do not give a separate lorry distance or time; we plan the day during the site visit.
Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry
The General Directorate of Highways restrictions table bars lorries from the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge; the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is open to all vehicle classes. The Eurasia Tunnel's tariff lists cars, minibuses and motorcycles, but no lorry class (sources: KGM restrictions and prohibitions and Eurasia Tunnel tolls, accessed 30.09.2026). A loaded lorry coming from the Asian side therefore crosses via Yavuz Sultan Selim, then approaches the address along the Levent–Zincirlikuyu axis or the Bosphorus coastal road. We found no published municipal or Governorate restriction for lorry routes within the district. For small moves using a smaller vehicle, the available crossing depends on the vehicle class; we confirm this by phone.
Beşiktaş map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations
The map shows the boundaries of all 23 neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, metro stations and taxi ranks. Satellite view shows the contrast between Bebek's compact waterfront streets and the towers and car parks around Levent–Konaklar.
Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood
The categories compare Beşiktaş's neighbourhoods with one another. Only three neighbourhoods have an average gradient below 6%: Levent, Konaklar and Sinanpaşa. Building heights are missing from the map in most neighbourhoods, so we confirm the number of storeys during the site visit.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).
Here is what the figures mean on moving day:
- Bosphorus shore and slopes — Bebek, Arnavutköy, Ortaköy, Kuruçeşme: average gradients are 7.9–12.3%, and 52–71% of street length is steep. The share of one-way or narrow streets is lower: 4% in Bebek and 23% in Kuruçeşme. Bebek has 1,383 mapped buildings and Arnavutköy 1,013, among the district's highest totals; floor data is unavailable, while mapped buildings in Kuruçeşme average fewer than two storeys. There are few streets climbing from the shore, so the lorry often waits at the waterfront or foot of the hill while the team carries belongings uphill.
- Above Ortaköy — Mecidiye and Ulus: Ulus has no mapped one-way or narrow streets, but its average gradient is 12.8% and 72% of its streets are steep. Mecidiye's average gradient is 9.2%, with 61% steep streets and 40% one-way or narrow. Ulus's broad roads bring the lorry to the door; the main question is team size for the slope. In Mecidiye, residents describe cobbled back streets, where we may need a smaller vehicle.
- Beşiktaş centre and the streets behind the market — Sinanpaşa, Türkali, Muradiye, Abbasağa, Cihannüma, Vişnezade and Yıldız: this is the district's narrow-street belt, with 45–95% of streets one-way or narrow; Muradiye is highest at 95%. Gradients vary: Sinanpaşa and Türkali are relatively level at 5.7–6.8%, while Abbasağa and Muradiye are both narrow and steep at 11.4–13.5%. Cihannüma, Vişnezade and Yıldız fall between 8.4% and 9.7%. Muradiye (0.08 km²) and Abbasağa (0.14 km²) are the district's smallest neighbourhoods. Yıldız has 12 mapped car parks, and its recorded buildings are two to three storeys. We schedule loading early and choose a stopping place on one-way streets in advance; we also allow for road closures around Dolmabahçe on stadium event days.
- Both sides of Barbaros Boulevard — Dikilitaş, Balmumcu and Gayrettepe: average gradients are 6.5–12%, and 48–65% of streets are steep. One-way or narrow streets account for 7% in Dikilitaş and 33% in Gayrettepe. No car parks are mapped in Dikilitaş or Balmumcu; mapped buildings in Gayrettepe average about nine storeys, and residents describe the area as dominated by large residential complexes. Residents also describe intensive demolition and rebuilding in Dikilitaş, leaving narrow streets crowded with construction vehicles. We choose the lorry's stopping point on site during the visit.
- The relatively level inland area — Levent, Konaklar, Etiler and Akat: average gradients are 5.1–6.1%, steep-street shares are 31–42%, and one-way or narrow streets account for 14–35%. Konaklar is the district's largest neighbourhood at 2.6 km², with about 21 km of local streets and 42 mapped car parks, by far the most. Levent has about 18 km of local streets. For offices and gated developments, the issue is not the slope but the queue for the goods lift, security registration and working hours. Residents describe some Etiler apartment blocks as old; we check floors and stairs during the visit. Streets descending towards Bebek are assessed separately.
- The Zincirlikuyu ridge — Nisbetiye, Kültür and Levazım: average gradients are 7.7–9.8%, steep-street shares are 51–57%, and one-way or narrow streets account for 14–31%. Nisbetiye has eight mapped car parks. Floor data is missing in all three neighbourhoods. Towers and three-storey flats sit side by side here, so we do not choose the vehicle or team size before seeing the building. Rush-hour congestion around the Zincirlikuyu junction means loading is usually scheduled for the morning.
What residents say
Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.
- Dikilitaş
Residents describe Dikilitaş as steep, with shortcuts made up of stairways. They say demolition and rebuilding increased after the 2023 earthquakes, leaving narrow streets blocked by construction lorries and concrete mixers. Some think streets once used as cut-throughs are now difficult to pass and that new buildings may worsen parking.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: dikilitaş (2022-09 – 2024-12)
- Akat
Residents place Akat between Etiler and Levent and describe parks appearing every few streets. They say most buildings have four or five storeys, alongside new residential schemes, towers on a former public-building site and a large complex undergoing renewal; they expect building work to remain intensive for several years.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: akatlar (2023-10 – 2025-07)
- Gayrettepe
Residents describe Gayrettepe as within walking distance of Mecidiyeköy, Levent and Beşiktaş, with easy Metrobus connections. They mention large residential complexes and little green space, alongside long-term residents, quieter weekends and a local shop scene that has endured.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: gayrettepe (2018-12 – 2025-12)
- Etiler
Residents describe Etiler as close to the metro, between two bridges and two ring roads. They say many homes are old, new developments sit alongside older buildings, and the roads are uneven; they mention long-term residents, retirees and managers. They also say Nispetiye Avenue has lost some of its former bustle, with banks and galleries now more prominent.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: etiler (2025-03 – 2026-03)
- Bebek, Etiler
Residents describe the roughly 800-metre climb between Bebek shore and Etiler metro as suddenly steep in places. They say walking up takes stamina and driving down takes experience; some new drivers cannot see the road all the way to the top. Some writers think the hill helps keep the area quieter despite its central location.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: bebek yokuşu (2018-05 – 2026-03)
- Yıldız, Abbasağa, Balmumcu
This is the long, steep boulevard climbing from Beşiktaş to Zincirlikuyu, often called Yıldız Hill in everyday speech. Writers mention weak night lighting near the university, early depressions in the new tarmac, and a decline in boulevard businesses and increase in empty shops after the university moved to another campus.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: barbaros bulvarı (2022-07 – 2026-03)
- Levazım, Gayrettepe
The downhill route from Zincirlikuyu to Beşiktaş is described as gridlocked after work. Writers say a shopping-centre construction site disrupted the ring-road entrance to Levent, minibuses block lanes near the Metrobus stop at business hours, and four lanes of traffic try to fit into a two-lane road. More recent posts sum up the junction as sprawling and confusing.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: zincirlikuyu (2010-06 – 2025-10)
- Ortaköy, Kuruçeşme
The coastal road from Ortaköy to Kuruçeşme Park passes beneath the Bosphorus Bridge and has very few connecting streets, so there are limited ways up the slope. It continues towards Beşiktaş as Çırağan Avenue and towards Bebek as Arnavutköy–Kuruçeşme Avenue. Writers say traffic can still show as red late at night, including on Çırağan Avenue.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: muallim naci caddesi (2005-10 – 2022-08)
- Ortaköy
Writers describe coastal traffic that remains gridlocked late at night, making the road feel like a car park. One says they chose to walk from Beşiktaş to Ortaköy rather than drive; another says this is the only road still marked red on the map before dawn.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: ortaköy trafiği (2021-07 – 2021-08)
- Ortaköy, Mecidiye
This is a long, single-axis hill road climbing from the shore; streets on its right fall in Ortaköy and those on its left in Mecidiye. Residents describe the side streets as narrow and cobbled, and use the length of the road to describe distances. Recent posts ask why the Mecidiye side is less sought after.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: dereboyu caddesi (2020-01 – 2026-08)
- Abbasağa, Cihannüma
Writers recall an older neighbourhood with steep streets parallel to Barbaros Boulevard that are easy to walk down and hard to climb. It is within walking distance of Beşiktaş market, the university and the boulevard; posts describe a largely student population and quiet nights.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: abbasağa (2001 – 2012)
- Etiler, Nisbetiye
Drivers find the shopping centre's multi-storey car park in Etiler narrow and difficult to manoeuvre in. They describe problems with large vehicles and scrapes or scratches at the entrance on the Ulus side; even the commercial car park is hard to navigate in a wide vehicle.

The moves we see most in Beşiktaş
- Moves between the two sides of the city: between the Asian side and Beşiktaş, the bridge restriction makes route and departure time the backbone of the plan.
- Offices and towers: around Levent, Zincirlikuyu and Gayrettepe, we may need an out-of-hours move, a goods-lift booking, and separate packing for archives and IT equipment.
- Single-person and student homes (1+1, one bedroom plus a living room, or a studio): the District Governorate calls the district a centre for private educational institutions; student moves increase in September and June.
- Family homes (2+1 or 3+1, two or three bedrooms plus a living room): for flats and residential developments in Etiler, Akat, Gayrettepe and Levent, we plan dismantling, packing and loading times.
- Homes on the Bosphorus slopes: in Bebek, Arnavutköy, Kuruçeşme and Ortaköy, we account for the hill and shore traffic when deciding on team size and hand-trolley distance.
- Urban-renewal clearances and storage: during the renovation residents describe in Dikilitaş and Akat, belongings may need to wait for months; we plan the move and storage together.

Beşiktaş Municipality has two service buildings: Levent Service Building, No. 1 Başlık Street, Aytar Avenue, Nisbetiye neighbourhood (switchboard 0212 319 42 42), and Çırağan Service Building, No. 77 Çırağan Avenue, Yıldız neighbourhood (0212 236 10 20); the District Governorate is at the same address. Residents can contact the Solution Centre on 444 44 55. The contact page does not list a WhatsApp line (sources: Beşiktaş Municipality contact and Beşiktaş District Governorate contact, accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipal Police divides the district between the Çarşı, Gayrettepe, Arnavutköy, Levent and Ortaköy station chiefs; all can be reached through 444 44 55 (source: Municipal Police stations, accessed 30.09.2026).
Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: we could not find a published rule or fee on the municipality website for a removals vehicle or mobile lift temporarily using the road (accessed 30.09.2026). The forms and petitions page has no form for removals or crane installation, and the Municipal Police regulation is available only as a PDF (source: Forms and petitions, accessed 30.09.2026). On the one-way streets behind the market, we recommend asking the relevant station chief before moving day.
Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: according to the Zero Waste Directorate portal, electrical waste such as white goods, air conditioners and computers is collected from the address within two working days of a report. Packaging waste is collected outside the building on the day assigned to the neighbourhood, but no neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood schedule is published. Excavation and rubble collection are chargeable; other waste collections are free, but no amounts are quoted here. We could not find a separate collection service for old furniture. The Dönüştür Kazan app offers scheduled collection for packaging, glass, textiles and electronic waste (sources: Zero Waste portal FAQs and Packaging waste, accessed 30.09.2026). We take away the moving boxes and packing materials; we can plan for old furniture during the site visit.
Public transport
The M2 stops at Gayrettepe, Levent and 4. Levent in the district; Gayrettepe connects with the Metrobus and M11, and Levent with M6 (source: Metro İstanbul M2, accessed 30.09.2026). M6 runs Levent–Nispetiye–Etiler–Boğaziçi University–Hisarüstü; at Etiler, the only access between the ticket gates and platform is a lift. The F4 connects Hisarüstü with the Aşiyan shore (sources: M6 and F4, accessed 30.09.2026). M7 connects Beşiktaş with Yıldız station; Fulya is on the Beşiktaş–Gayrettepe boundary. Beşiktaş centre and the Dolmabahçe shore have no metro connection (source: Metro İstanbul M7, accessed 30.09.2026). We take Gayrettepe and Zincirlikuyu interchange traffic and stadium-day road closures into account when choosing the loading time (source: Road-closure notice, accessed 30.09.2026).

Urban renewal
İBB's Beşiktaş plan-note amendment on buildings at risk covers plans for 21 neighbourhoods; Arnavutköy and Kuruçeşme are not listed, and the page gives no reason. The amended plans also include Bosphorus rear-view and impact-area conservation plans. We found no record for Beşiktaş of a designated risk or reserve area on İBB's project and field-office pages (source: İBB Urban Renewal, Beşiktaş plan-note amendment, accessed 30.09.2026). Beşiktaş İmar, affiliated with the municipality's Urban Renewal Directorate, offers free technical and legal advice; no neighbourhood or project list is published (source: Urban renewal, accessed 30.09.2026). An asbestos inventory is required before a demolition permit, which affects the clearance schedule (source: Asbestos measures, accessed 30.09.2026). We pack belongings from a building at risk and move them into storage, then place them in the new building once it is ready.
Neighbouring districts
The District Governorate and municipality do not publish an official list of neighbouring districts. On the map, Beşiktaş borders Şişli, Sarıyer, Beyoğlu and Kağıthane. We assess the bridge, slope, street, floor and timing together when planning a move. For the whole city, see our İstanbul removals page.
