Büyükçekmece removals
Which side of the lake is the address on? The narrow streets of Dizdariye in the centre east of the lake, the site blocks of Mimaroba and Sinanoba to the west, and the summer-home belt from Kumburgaz to Celaliye each need a different plan. Our lorry comes from the Asian side via Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.
We handle removals in western European İstanbul. According to the District Governorate, Beylikdüzü and Esenyurt are to the east, Silivri to the west, Çatalca and Arnavutköy to the north, and the Sea of Marmara to the south; the terrain is gently undulating, there is no forest, and the town centre is on the lake's eastern shore. The District Governorate gives the area as 18,145 hectares, while the municipality gives 17,300 hectares including the lake; we retain both figures. The municipality reports the lake as 24.30 km², a 25 km shoreline and an elevation of up to 194 metres. Population sources also differ: 280,528 at the end of 2025 from the District Governorate, and 283,239 from the municipality with no year stated. The District Governorate says the summer population approaches 750,000–800,000. Both sources count 24 neighbourhoods (sources: District Governorate, district profile, Local Authorities, Municipality, Geography and physical location, Population statistics, accessed 30.09.2026).
The car route from Sancaktepe to Büyükçekmece is about 68–91 km, taking 55–70 minutes in free-flowing traffic. Cumhuriyet is 68.5 km away, the neighbourhoods' geographic centre 81.6 km, and Celaliye 90.6 km (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). This car route does not reflect the lorry's bridge route; our lorry uses Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, so we do not give a separate distance or time for it.
Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry
Lorries coming from the Asian side use Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge: KGM closes the 15 July Martyrs and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges to lorry classes, and the Eurasia Tunnel tariff has no lorry class (sources: KGM Restrictions and Prohibitions, Eurasia Tunnel fares, accessed 30.09.2026). The lorry heads west from the north, reaches the TEM and continues towards the coast by the Kumburgaz link or the D-100. Which crossing a smaller vehicle can use depends on its class.
Büyükçekmece map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations
The map shows boundaries for 24 neighbourhoods, 24 muhtarlık offices and taxi ranks; the rail-station layer is empty. The central neighbourhoods are to the east, the coastal belt to the west and 28 km² Karaağaç to the north. The historic Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Bridge at the lake outlet is not for vehicle traffic (source: District Governorate, caravanserai and Mimar Sinan Bridge, accessed 30.09.2026).
Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood
The labels below compare only Büyükçekmece's 24 neighbourhoods. Terrain is gentle across the district: only Pınartepe has an average gradient above 6%, at 6.6%; the others range from 3.8% to 5.8%. Gradient values come from a surface model, so read them as a comparison rather than absolute measurements.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).
What the figures mean on moving day:
- The centre at the lake outlet — Dizdariye, Fatih, Atatürk, Cumhuriyet, 19 Mayıs and Pınartepe: Dizdariye is the most constrained, with 51% narrow or one-way streets across 0.55 km², 7 km of streets, 298 buildings and two car parks. Fatih has 450 buildings and 23.2 km of streets across 2.04 km². Atatürk and Cumhuriyet have average gradients of 5.6–5.8% and steep-street shares of 39%; Cumhuriyet has six car parks. 19 Mayıs has 13.1 km of streets and 207 buildings across 7.78 km². Pınartepe is the hilliest, at a 6.6% gradient and 43% steep-street share. The lorry may need to stay on the avenue in Dizdariye; on sloping streets, we choose a level waiting point in advance.
- The housing and site belt west of the lake — Mimarsinan, Murat Çeşme, Mimaroba, Sinanoba, Ekinoba, Güzelce, Bahçelievler and Yenimahalle: narrow or one-way streets account for 0–3%. Mimarsinan has 999 buildings across 2.25 km²; Murat Çeşme has 1,176, Sinanoba 1,059, Mimaroba 646 and Ekinoba 638. Güzelce has the group's highest building and street totals, with 2,169 buildings and 64.3 km of streets across 6 km². Bahçelievler and Yenimahalle have average gradients of 5.8% and steep-street shares of 41%; 41 buildings are mapped in Yenimahalle, with an average of 3.3 floors where floor data exists. We confirm site entrance times, vehicle registration and goods lifts in advance; wind and summer traffic affect open-bed vehicle planning at coastal addresses.
- The western coast — Kumburgaz, Celaliye and Kamiloba: narrow or one-way street share is 0%, average gradients are 4.1–4.2% and steep-street shares are 26%. Areas range from 4.04 to 14.1 km², with 56.8–84.1 km of local streets; 262–299 buildings are mapped and no car parks are recorded. Buildings with floor data in Kumburgaz average 3.6 storeys. Residents describe summer homes and housing sites; we account for garden access and coastal traffic during the survey.
- The north, TEM and Hadımköy — Karaağaç, Alkent 2000, Çakmaklı, Ahmediye, Hürriyet, Türkoba and Ulus: Karaağaç leads on four measures, with 28.1 km², 140.4 km of streets, 2,675 buildings and 22 car parks; 9–10% of its streets are narrow or one-way. Alkent 2000 has 1,825 buildings across 6.73 km²; Türkoba has 1,330 buildings and 88.2 km of streets across 11.5 km². Çakmaklı has 60 mapped buildings; 40% of those with floor data average 9.9 storeys, and 9% of streets are narrow. Ahmediye, Hürriyet and Ulus have 98–321 buildings, no narrow-street share and steep-street shares of 29–36%. For site and workplace moves, we confirm access and loading space during the survey.
The lake, coast and urban renewal
The municipality describes the district as a summer resort: a mild coastal climate, beaches, the lake and day visitors from nearby districts. The District Governorate counts 39,315 buildings and 147,575 homes, or roughly four homes per building; we read this as a mix of housing sites, detached homes and summer homes (sources: Climate and tourism, District Governorate, district profile, accessed 30.09.2026). For moving, this means more belongings moving in and out of coastal neighbourhoods at the start and end of summer, slower coastal roads at weekends, and site access and time approvals to arrange. For urban renewal, İBB is carrying out a 4.8-hectare risky-area project in Mimarsinan between the D-100 and the sea. An Urban Renewal Information and Resolution Office opened in November 2021, and discussions with rights holders are continuing. İBB's amendment to the risky-building planning note is recorded as covering plans for the centre, lake basin, Kumburgaz, Celaliye–Kamiloba, Türkoba and Pınartepe (sources: İBB, Mimarsinan neighbourhood urban renewal project, İBB planning-note amendment, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality's Urban Transformation Directorate says it works to move rights holders into the homes produced, but does not list neighbourhoods or projects (source: Urban Transformation Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). We wrap and store belongings from risky buildings, then deliver them once the new flat is ready.
What residents say
Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.
- Dizdariye, Fatih, Atatürk, Cumhuriyet
Posts describe reliance on the Metrobüs, buses running as far as Bakırköy and the lack of a pier or sea transport despite the long coastline; İETT service frequency is considered inadequate. Another writer observes that urban renewal in the centre is progressing relatively regularly, with old buildings replaced by pale-coloured, four- or five-storey buildings with parking.

- Sinanoba, Mimaroba
Two writers say winds are very strong in the coastal neighbourhoods and walking becomes difficult on stormy days; they mention checking the wind forecast. They also note that evening lighting is poor on the Sinanoba coast.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: büyükçekmece (2026-03 – 2026-04)
- Mimarsinan
One writer, linking to a news report, says a landslide occurred between the buildings and the shore at Mimarsinan and that people may have been trapped; this is one writer relaying a news report.
single opinion · ekşi sözlük: büyükçekmece (2026-08)
- Mimaroba
The area is described as having been established in the late 1990s with Emlak Bank housing; many residents are said to be civil servants or retirees, and blocks are separated by gardens, with shops for everyday needs. Heavy summer traffic is often attributed to its peninsula-like position. One writer argues that older cooperative blocks need renewal, while others say they came through the 1999 earthquake undamaged.
several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: mimaroba (2020-10 – 2025-12)
- Kumburgaz, Kamiloba
Residents describe close neighbourly ties in the coastal housing sites of Kumburgaz and Kamiloba, beachfront flats that stay cold in winter, a wide beach and heavy visitor numbers in summer. Some writers question the resilience of older summer-home sites after the 2023 earthquakes; these are personal concerns, not technical assessments. They also say frequent bus services do not meet demand.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: kumburgaz (2022-07 – 2024-03)
- Celaliye
Writers say Celaliye has moved away from its former image as a quiet summer town, with more building and excavation work, and remains far from the city centre.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: celaliye (2022-04 – 2023-08)
- Kamiloba
Posts say services in Kamiloba are limited beyond markets and grocery shops, and that residents go to the centre for a plumber or electrician; the area is described as a summer resort. Writers also say its liveliest period was the 1990s.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: kamiloba (2022-08 – 2024-03)
- Güzelce
Writers describe Güzelce as an area dominated by villas; they say the bus journey from Yenibosna takes hours and that the coast is poorly maintained.
a few comments · ekşi sözlük: güzelce (2020-05 – 2023-08)
- Cumhuriyet
Writers say traffic became even more confusing after the roundabout in Beykent was removed and replaced with a straight road.

The moves we see most in Büyükçekmece
- Opening and closing summer homes, and seasonal moves: taking belongings to summer homes in Kumburgaz, Celaliye, Kamiloba and Güzelce in spring, then moving them to a winter address or storage in autumn; we survey site entrances and garden access.
- Moves within housing sites and new-build handovers: block developments in Mimaroba, Sinanoba, Ekinoba and Alkent 2000; we arrange management approval, the goods-lift time and vehicle registration a day in advance.
- Villas and detached homes: garden homes in Güzelce and along the coast; we allow for a long carry from the garden gate and add crew for heavy items.
- Family homes (2+1, 3+1): dismantling, packing and lift planning in the centre and the residential belt west of the lake. A 2+1 has two bedrooms plus a living room; a 3+1 has three.
- Single-person homes (1+1, studio): in the centre and around Beykent; a two-person team and smaller vehicle may be enough. A 1+1 has one bedroom plus a living room.
- Offices, shops and workshops: moves from factories, industrial facilities and workplaces listed by the District Governorate; we discuss ramps and out-of-hours work.
- Urban-renewal clearances and storage: in the Mimarsinan risky area and neighbourhoods covered by the planning note, we arrange the move and storage together.
- Moves between the two sides of İstanbul: between the Asian side and Büyükçekmece; bridge restrictions mean we plan the departure time and route from the outset.

The municipality's central building is at No. 1 Şehremini Street, Fatih neighbourhood; its single contact number is 444 0 340. There are additional service buildings at No. 24 Cumhuriyet Avenue in Mimarsinan Merkez and No. 3 Belediye Avenue in Kumburgaz Merkez, plus payment desks at Tepepark Shopping Centre in Ulus and Atatürk Arcade in Dizdariye. The municipality's homepage has a WhatsApp link but no description; its domain is www.bcekmece.bel.tr, and no separate contact page is published (sources: Service points, Municipality homepage, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate is in the Government Building on Enver Paşa Avenue, Dizdariye neighbourhood: the Governorate and Open Door are in Block A, and the Population, Land Registry and Cadastral Directorates share Block B. Its telephone is 0212 883 10 08 (sources: District Governorate contact, District profile, accessed 30.09.2026).
Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: we could not find a published rule or fee on the municipality's website for a moving vehicle or mobile lift temporarily using the road (accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipal Police Directorate page lists duties such as dealing with unlicensed workplaces, street vendors and demolition escorts, but does not mention removals or road occupation (source: Municipal Police Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). On narrow streets such as those in Dizdariye, we notify the municipality a day in advance on 444 0 340.
Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: the Cleaning Affairs Directorate says it collects old furniture such as sofas, couches and mattresses by appointment, and construction and garden waste on a schedule; it does not give a separate appointment number, so requests are made through 444 0 340 or e-municipality. Rubbish and recycling times are available street by street in the e-municipality Waste Collection search: choose a neighbourhood and street to see the day and time. For example, one street in Dizdariye centre shows household waste collection daily from 07.00 to 11.00; check your own street (sources: Cleaning services, Waste collection times, accessed 30.09.2026). We take away boxes and packing materials on moving day; we set aside unwanted items during the survey for collection by the municipality.
Public transport
There is no operating or under-construction metro or tram station in Büyükçekmece; the district is not named on Metro İstanbul's line list or its page for planned and under-construction lines (sources: Metro İstanbul, all lines, planned and under-construction lines, accessed 30.09.2026). Residents say they rely on the Metrobüs, but we could not confirm from official sources that the route does not enter the district and terminates in Beylikdüzü, as the İETT pages were unavailable on the research date. There is no Marmaray station or ferry pier in the district either; residents mention the lack of sea transport despite the long coastline. The two road corridors are the D-100 along the coast and the TEM to the north, with the Hadımköy and Kumburgaz link roads. For moving day, an early start helps at central and Mimarsinan addresses on the D-100; the western coast has no access other than the D-100 and TEM links, so we prefer weekdays during summer weekends.
