Çatalca removals

A move in Çatalca can be between a small town centre, an industrial belt near Hadımköy and villages at the end of forest roads. From an old flat in Kaleiçi to a village home in Yalıköy, the lorry route, stopping place and team plan depend on the address.

We handle removals at İstanbul's western edge, in the province's largest district by area. According to the District Governorate's and municipality's history pages, Çatalca covers 1,115.11 km² and is 56 km from the provincial centre; Büyükçekmece is to the south, Silivri and Saray in Tekirdağ to the west, and Arnavutköy to the east (sources: History of Çatalca, Çatalca, accessed 30.09.2026). The district has a Black Sea coast only: the District Governorate's coastal order lists Çilingoz, Yalıköy, Çobankule, Evcik and Ormanlı beaches; the Sea of Marmara coast lies in Büyükçekmece and Silivri (source: General order on use of the beaches, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality's muhtarlık list has 39 entries. The former town of Binkılıç is counted as two neighbourhoods, Atatürk and Fatih, while most of the other settlements are still commonly called villages (source: Our muhtars, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate does not publish a population or neighbourhood list, so we do not give a population figure.

The car route from Sancaktepe to Çatalca is about 83–146 km, taking 60–135 minutes in free-flowing traffic. Bahşayiş is 83.1 km and 61 minutes away, the centre 116.6 km and 98 minutes, and Binkılıç Fatih 146 km and 135 minutes (source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026). Our lorry uses Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, so the car route does not apply to it.

Crossing the Bosphorus: which bridge takes the lorry

A lorry coming from the Asian side crosses the Bosphorus and travels across the European side. KGM's table closes the 15 July Martyrs and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges to lorries; Yavuz Sultan Selim is open to all vehicle classes. The Eurasia Tunnel tariff has no lorry class (sources: KGM Restrictions and Prohibitions, Eurasia Tunnel fares, accessed 30.09.2026). KGM's readable page does not list Çatalca exits. The municipality reports traffic works on the motorway link road in Kaleiçi; we choose a suitable exit for the neighbourhood during the survey (source: Work continues on safer roads, accessed 30.09.2026). We decide during the survey, based on that day's road conditions, which exit to take for the centre, industrial area or coastal villages.

Çatalca map: neighbourhoods, muhtarlık offices, stations

The map's 39 polygons match the municipality's list of 39 muhtarlık offices; Başak, Yazlık and Kalfa are shortened names. The muhtarlık layer shows 39 buildings, the rail layer has no stations, and one taxi rank is mapped in the centre.

Access profile, neighbourhood by neighbourhood

The categories compare all 39 neighbourhoods. In 34, the share of narrow or one-way streets is zero; İnceğiz, Karamandere, Kızılcaali, Oklalı and Subaşı each have 1%. Floor data is sparse, so we confirm building heights during the survey.

Computed on 2026-09-30 from OpenStreetMap streets, parking areas and buildings inside each neighbourhood; categories are relative to the other neighbourhoods of this district. Narrow = share of local street length that is one-way, under 5.5 m wide or single-lane. Slope = average street grade from the Copernicus DEM (30 m surface model; indicative). * station under construction (İBB).

What the figures mean on moving day:

  • The town centre — Kaleiçi, Ferhatpaşa and İnceğiz: the district's densest street network is here, with 42.0–69.4 km of local streets, average gradients of 4.0–4.4% and steep-street shares of 21–29%. Ferhatpaşa has 784 buildings and Kaleiçi 364; floor data covers fewer than 2%. Residents say old blocks of flats line Atatürk Avenue; the municipality's demolition list shows urban-renewal demolitions in these two neighbourhoods. There are five car parks in Ferhatpaşa and two in Kaleiçi. We choose the loading point in advance because of the Thursday market. In İnceğiz, 1% of streets are narrow; for housing sites on the hilltop, we ask about ramps and management approval.
  • The industrial side near Hadımköy — Muratbey Merkez, Nakkaş, Bahşayiş, İzzettin and Ovayenice: the district's flattest area, with average gradients of 1.9–4.1% and steep-street shares of 3–24%; Bahşayiş is the flattest neighbourhood at 1.9% and 3%. Street networks range from 11.0 to 53.6 km, with no narrow streets recorded. Eleven of the district's 19 car parks are in this group. Floor data is available for 7% of Muratbey's 171 buildings, averaging two storeys, and for 7% of İzzettin's 54 buildings, averaging three. No floor data is available for Bahşayiş's 256 buildings. For warehouse and workshop moves, we plan loading after service traffic.
  • The Black Sea coast — Yalıköy, Karacaköy Merkez and Ormanlı: the areas are 80.5, 67.7 and 33.0 km²; average gradients are 2.5–4.8%, and steep-street shares 11–32%. Yalıköy is the most undulating and Ormanlı the flattest. The mapped building counts are 178, 16 and 31; there is no floor data or mapped car park. Residents say Yalıköy's local roads were asphalted in 2024, while the links between settlements remain single-carriageway roads. İETT route 404 takes 148 minutes to the centre; for summer-house moves, we decide where the lorry can stop in advance.
  • Binkılıç and the northern villages — Atatürk, Fatih, Karamandere, Gümüşpınar, Hallaçlı, Çiftlikköy, Belgrat, Aydınlar, Kestanelik: areas range from 10.0 to 169.3 km²; Fatih is the district's largest neighbourhood. Average gradients are 2.2–5.6%, and steep-street shares are 6–36%; Hallaçlı is the flattest and Fatih the steepest. Only Karamandere has narrow streets, at 1%. Hallaçlı has 2,232 buildings and Aydınlar 317; floor data is unavailable. İETT route 402 takes 124 minutes to Binkılıç. Residents say the road narrows into forest after the centre; we check lorry size and turning space during the survey.
  • Steeper villages north of the centre and the forest-road corridor — Akalan, Kalfa, Başak, Kızılcaali, Yaylacık, Yazlık, Örencik, Dağyenice, Çanakça, Elbasan and Celepköy: average gradients are 2.9–5.9%, with 12–52% of streets classed as steep. Kızılcaali is the district's steepest at 52%, followed by Akalan at 44% and Yaylacık at 41%. Street networks range from 0.3 to 26.0 km; 1% of streets in Kızılcaali are narrow. Dağyenice has 92 buildings, Akalan 62 and Örencik one. The municipality opened the first 5.6 km stage of an alternative Akalan–Kalfa–Başak forest road in 2026 to divert heavy vehicles from the neighbourhoods; the second stage is under way (source: First stage of the Akalan–Kalfa–Başak alternative forest road opens, accessed 30.09.2026). For village moves, the lorry may need to stop in the village square and we complete the final distance with a smaller vehicle.
  • The flatter inland villages — Subaşı, Gökçeali, Oklalı, Kabakça, İhsaniye, Hisarbeyli, Örcünlü and Çakıl: average gradients are 2.4–4.2%, and steep-street shares are 8–26%; Gökçeali is the flattest. Street networks range from 7.0 to 34.5 km; Subaşı and Oklalı have 1% narrow streets. There are 72 mapped buildings in Subaşı, 51 in İhsaniye, 34 in Kabakça, and one each in Oklalı and Hisarbeyli. Örcünlü has the only mapped car park outside the centre and industrial area. The municipality reports demolishing the risky Çakıl muhtarlık building (source: Demolition of the Çakıl neighbourhood muhtarlık building, accessed 30.09.2026). We account for the distances between villages when setting up the route at the start of the day.

What residents say

Summaries of public community discussions, in our own words, with links to the source. These are residents' views, not our crew's notes; we add our own observations as we complete jobs here.

  • Ferhatpaşa, Kaleiçi

A long-time resident says Ferhatpaşa is the busiest neighbourhood and Atatürk Avenue, running from Dörtyol down to Cumhuriyet Square, is the main route; dozens of old apartment buildings from the 1980s and 1990s line it, while urban renewal is said to be slow because of disputes with contractors. Posts say rentals are hard to find in the centre, KİPTAŞ housing is not within walking distance of it, and people consider the ground firmer around Karacaköy and Yalıköy rather than the centre.

single opinion · ekşi sözlük: çatalca (2023-02)

  • Kaleiçi, Ferhatpaşa

Several writers say finding a rental flat in the district centre has become almost impossible, that the nearby customs facility and airport bring activity to the town, and that it has received substantial migration over the past decade. They also repeatedly note that local opinion does not consider the centre's ground conditions good.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: çatalca (2023-02 – 2024-02)

  • Kaleiçi, Ferhatpaşa

A local writer says the district is quiet except at weekends and on Thursdays when the market is held; visitors from İstanbul bring weekend activity, and villagers coming into the centre do so on Thursdays. Another recalls that even the side roads to villages were paved in the past. A parent considering a move to Ferhatpaşa asks about neighbourhood and school safety.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: çatalca (2024-03 – 2025)

  • Kaleiçi, Ferhatpaşa

Writers say migration over the past decade has visibly increased traffic in the centre. Someone who has lived in the district for five years writes that the KİPTAŞ area is home mainly to airport workers, gendarmerie and police personnel; there is no direct public transport between Çatalca and Silivri, and route 401 uses small vehicles with long waits at the Büyükçekmece interchange. Another writer thinks the municipality has limited capacity to extend infrastructure across its large rural area.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: çatalca (2024-12 – 2026-01)

  • Atatürk, Fatih

Older posts describe Binkılıç as about 100 km from İstanbul and 50 km from Çatalca centre, with the road entering forest after Çatalca. A 2010 post says the settlement was split into two neighbourhoods, Atatürk and Fatih, after its town municipality closed; later posts say young people moved to larger settlements and most who remained were retirees.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: binkılıç (2005–2019)

  • Atatürk, Fatih, Karamandere

A taxi driver writes that after Çatalca the village is reached by a long, narrow road through the forest, which feels unsettling at night. Another writer warns that when Karamandere Dam is completed, part of the old village will be flooded and the remainder will be closed to settlement within the reservoir protection boundary, cautioning against people subdividing and selling plots.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: binkılıç (2021-02 – 2026-03)

  • Yalıköy, Karacaköy Merkez

A local writer says natural gas reached the village in 2022, after which many homes were renovated; it had reached Karacaköy, eight kilometres away, earlier. Power cuts and an internet outage during the 2023 holiday are mentioned as a warning to people considering a move. Village streets were paved in early 2024, but connecting roads to neighbouring settlements remain single-carriageway.

several comments agree · ekşi sözlük: yalıköy (2021-12 – 2024-05)

  • Yalıköy

Writers say plots are being bought throughout the village for hotels and housing sites; the building with the closest shop to the beach closed in 2025 after a demolition decision, and a night market is held in summer. Posts also mention dangerous rip currents and occasional tar lumps on the shore. An older post noted that the road after Çatalca was in poor condition and that the village had a gated housing site.

    a few comments · ekşi sözlük: yalıköy (2024-07 – 2026-07)

  • Karacaköy Merkez

Posts say Karacaköy is about an hour and a half from central İstanbul and 15 minutes from the Black Sea, with frequent power cuts; it is described as within the province but disconnected from the rest of the city. In 2023, someone considering a move there asked residents about everyday life.

a few comments · ekşi sözlük: karacaköy (2003–2023)

  • İnceğiz

Residents say İnceğiz is a 10–15-minute drive north-east of Çatalca centre. Housing sites sit on the hill with the caves, while there is a picnic area and restaurants by the stream.

The moves we see most in Çatalca

  • Village homes and farms: we confirm lorry access within the village during the survey for detached homes, barns and garden belongings.
  • Summer homes: seasonal moves in Yalıköy, Karacaköy and Ormanlı; vehicle planning for housing sites on the hill in İnceğiz.
  • Industrial, warehouse and workshop moves: separate vehicle planning for shelving, benches and archives in Muratbey, Nakkaş and Bahşayiş.
  • Urban-renewal clearances and storage: the municipality's Çatalca Yenileniyor programme, run with KİPTAŞ, demolishes and rebuilds risky buildings in Ferhatpaşa and Kaleiçi. Belongings from an emptied flat can wait in storage and move to the new building in one delivery.
  • Single-person and studio homes (1+1): we choose a suitable vehicle and team for smaller flats in the centre. A 1+1 has one bedroom plus a living room.
  • Family homes (2+1, 3+1): flats in Ferhatpaşa and Kaleiçi and the replacement blocks in the Çatalca Yenileniyor programme; dismantling and packing are part of the plan. A 2+1 has two bedrooms plus a living room; a 3+1 has three.
  • Offices and shops: around Cumhuriyet Square and Vezir Ferhatpaşa Avenue; we prefer early starts except on Thursday market day.
  • Moves between the two sides of İstanbul: to or from Çatalca and the Asian side; bridge restrictions mean we plan the route and departure time from the outset.

Çatalca Municipality's main service building is at No. 50 Vezir Ferhatpaşa Avenue, Kaleiçi neighbourhood. Its Solution Centre, 444 61 02, takes calls and WhatsApp messages; requests and suggestions can also be submitted through the website form and e-municipality (source: Contact, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate is in the Government Building at Cumhuriyet Square in the same neighbourhood; its switchboard is 0212 789 10 20 (source: District Governorate contact, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Gendarmerie Command handles law enforcement in rural neighbourhoods and is also in Kaleiçi, at No. 57 Ferhatpaşa Avenue (source: District Gendarmerie Command, accessed 30.09.2026). The municipality opened a new Municipal Police service building beside the public market in September 2026 (source: New Municipal Police service building opens, accessed 30.09.2026).

For urban-renewal moves, the municipality has a separate Çatalca Yenileniyor portal. It describes the steps from a rapid assessment and risky-building report to title-deed annotation, demolition and rebuilding. It says rent assistance is envisaged for flat owners and moving assistance for tenants; the rent-support application page had not opened on the research date. For applications and information, contact the Urban Transformation Directorate through 444 61 02 (sources: Çatalca Yenileniyor, Urban transformation in 12 steps, accessed 30.09.2026). According to the municipality's planning notes, below-ground car parks in renewed buildings are excluded from the construction-area calculation; new buildings are expected to have covered parking, while older stock often does not (source: Our planning notes, accessed 30.09.2026).

Permits for lorries and exterior lifts: we could not find a published rule or fee on the municipality's website for a moving vehicle or mobile lift temporarily using the road (accessed 30.09.2026). The Municipal Police Directorate page has only a PDF of its working regulations and describes no separate process for removals (source: Municipal Police Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). On narrow streets in the centre, it is best to ask the Solution Centre before moving day.

Old furniture, rubble and waste collection days: the Cleaning Affairs and Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate pages do not publish collection days, rubble rules or an old-furniture collection line. Both give 444 61 02 as the contact number (sources: Cleaning Affairs Directorate, Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate, accessed 30.09.2026). We take away boxes and packing materials left on moving day; we plan for old furniture during the survey.

Public transport

There is no rail station in Çatalca, and the district is not named on Metro İstanbul's line list (source: All lines, accessed 30.09.2026). The District Governorate's page for the historic Çatalca station gives no current services. As we could not verify a regional train stop with TCDD, we do not publish train information (source: Çatalca station, accessed 30.09.2026). İETT's regional routes take 81 minutes to Avcılar Metrobüs on route 401, 124 minutes to Binkılıç on 402, 82 minutes to Çiftlikköy on 403 and 148 minutes to Yalıköy/Karacaköy on 404. Some services use a different intermediate route (sources: İETT 401, İETT 402, İETT 403, İETT 404, accessed 30.09.2026). For long village routes, we plan the crew and belongings around the same vehicle route.
